Need cleaning help...because I do not know what this is...
« on: December 08, 2013, 01:17:01 PM »
I got a pretty lot of ponies in...great glitter, great blush, etc....

but some of them have this stuff on them....

it is in some of their hair, on their bodies etc. I thought it was just dirt, it was raised up... as they were being washed the stuff washed right out of the hair. But as I tried to clean them off the bodies, they started streaking and then I get this...

First off, anyone know what this is and second...can I get it off the ponies? I tried scrubbing with hot water and antibacterial soap, but nothing so far has removed it all...anyone come across this before?

The final one is smooze\pin dot. The others are mould spots. You can sometimes get mould out with bleach treatments, and I've gotten pindot off with hand sanitizer (antibacterial) and nail scritching.

That is odd, was it just dry mold that I was flaking off of them?

How do you do a bleach treatment?

I used to have a problem with flies in my parent's house, before I moved out.  We always got some inside every summer (we had a pool, and people were always coming and going and leaving the door open).  I don't know if this could be it, but they would land on my ponies, when they were on open shelves in my room, and leave behind these raised brown spots.  I cleaned the spots when I noticed, but I never did get the stains out of the ones that had had them for a while.  All the protected ones behind glass were perfectly fine.

It does look similar to the junk flies leave behind... Not sure if there would be a way to remove that if it has been on there for a long time.

That does appear to be frass, which is insect excrement.  Sun treatments are probably the best bet for staining, unfortunately nylon is excellent at absorbing and retaining chemicals.

Ugh, I hoped to hear some way of getting it off. The ponies are pristine aside from this stuff...perfect glitter and paint....

Oh my....that is unfortunate. And a little gross. ;) The things our poor ponies have gone through in their lives, just terrible! But hey, good luck with the cleaning! Looks like you got some good ideas to try. :)

Yes I agree unfortunately not pin dot or mould they would be easier to remove :( Looks like some kind of insect poop or general grunge build up due to environmental surrounds. The problem with both can be it literally gets into the pores of the plastic and stains right through. If you have tried to remove the surface with magic eraser, eucalyptus oil etc, then your next movie is going to be sunfading. It should shift with time but be prepared for it to take longer than with inks.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

Ugh, I looked at it and first thought some type of damage from fire... But fly doo? I've had playsets covered in spider doo (came right off), but fly doo looks horrendous!
