Box full of ponies with braided hair....HELP
« on: November 24, 2013, 11:32:20 AM »
Hopefully I am posting this in the right place....So I have a ton of ponies that have had their hair braided for years.... their hair is otherwise soft silky and gorgeous so I am not sure what to do to get the crimps out without damaging it, a simple wash and condition will not do anything ...PLEASE HELP lol!

Boiling water should help straighten out the waves. :)

I might try this myself. I got my Salty when I was still a kid and insisted on braiding his hair in tiny braids and left it that way, now it's super wavy. It won't melt the plastic?

Im thinking you probably just dip the hair and try to not get the pony too wet....?

My Baby Sunribbon had that problem and few quick swipes with the hair straightener fixed it completely.

Yeah, I used to use actual boiling water but now I just run water through my coffee pot or Keurig and then just dip the mane or tail in the coffee cup of water.
Helps a lot with waves and frizz.
After that try conditioning and then dipping again if you still have waves.

This is what I usually do too. Though if you guys DO try the flat iron method, make sure you have the temp turned down as low as it will go. Too high and the hair will melt...  :lookround: Learned that one the hard way on a G3. You can also iron it when the hair is damp and it kind of 'steams' the hair straight.

Good advice.  And have the hair damp but not wet because my old straightener kind of caught fire when water got in it and my whole house smelt like burning for days.

I also use the flat iron method. I usually put conditioner in the damp hair first and then flat iron on a lower setting.

I'd go for the flat iron too. It can work wonders on regular pony hair.
Just be careful, it does ruin color changing hair from what I know, as well as that iridescent shimmery plastic tinsel that so many G3s and a few G1s come with.

I just did one yesterday, I took them out. Washed her hair and added conditioner. After that was all done I did them straw curls to her. I will take them out in a few days and see if that fixed her. I will have to try that boiling water thing sometime to :)

I always try boiling water first and then a flat iron. I can only think of one stubborn pony whose hair didn't straighten after being dipped in boiling water (for braided ponies only). When they have frizzy hair, I generally go for a lengthy condition and then try a flat iron.

My favorite part about ponies with braided hair is that it is usually easy to comb through, unlike some of the snarled balls of hair on some ponies :)

Let us know how it goes!

So true! Their hair is absolutely gorgeous and silky because of being braided all these years :) if I can get the crimps out they will be lovely. I am going to try the boiling water because I don't want to risk ruining their perfect hair with a flat iron ;)
