Commissioning the chinese sellers
« on: November 16, 2013, 07:37:37 AM »
I'm not saying this would be a good idea, I just found myself wondering if anyone's actually tried it, and if so, what happened. With all the ponies and fakies that people buy directly from China, through eBay or Taobao or AliExpress or what have you, has anyone just asked one of the sellers "can you make me a pony with these colors and this pose and this symbol" or something like that? What did they say? Particularly some of the fakie makers seem like they could use better ideas for color combinations.

I have done it with products other than ponies but not with ponies unfortunately :P A lot of the factories which I use now were initial contacts from trade shows and even a couple of them through Ali. I am assuming it works the same way with ponies as it would with any other product - they are not selling you a product they are selling you a service, their ability to create something similar or at least in the same sector or even just promoting that they have the facilities to create certain things.

Would be interesting to find out if anyone has ever done it on a large scale for the MLP ish items offered.

I've thought about it before! But I didn't know if it would be rude to ask, or even who to ask. I'd love to know if anyone's done it!

That is a facinating prospect, I'd definitely like to try it if anyone knew where to start.
Mmmm, now I'll be daydreaming about Hasbro opening up custom pony service...

I guess this solves our problems for the lack of new characters if it works. Someone's going to make a killing off of giving us our custom ponies and never released characters. Hasbro's loss is their gain.

I want someone to try this! Try to find someone to contact!

I have tried to do that for an italian pony meeting, but all the agers told me it's impossible to do that with original hasbro ponies.
they can do it with fakes mold tho. and only for orders from 1000 units and up.

We can still use fake g4 molds that are like identical.

We should find someone who is willing to listen to our ideas, make the ponies and then puts the ponies up for sale. I am sure they would sell very good, especially fan favorites that were not made and G1 to G4. This could actually happen if we do this, we can have our G1's and new characters if we find someone, and I'm sure someone will want to do it. I don't use Taobao though, maybe someone can go on there and contact them?

GEI WO YI BAI CAI HONG PI MA. DUN-DUN-DUN.
ahahha I suppose you could try. But you would, yeah, probably have to order some massive bulk. And honestly if you're ordering a fake pony would it just be easier to make your own mold? I mean, not EASY sure, but, easier than hiring a translator, convincing someone to help you, and ordering thousands of fake plastic horses lol.

Gah, I would love a G4 Firefly. Not that artist made customs are not good, but I always feel like customs are too precious to handle, style, wash, etc.

Seems like it would be a big undertaking to try and commission a Chinese seller.

I have seen at least one person who simply has their own G4 mold and makes their own ponies with it. Of course, you'd need all kinds of specialized equipment...

You can purchase mould making kits easily enough - yes it starts out pricey and you need to read up on knowing what you do but its perfectly possible. One of my brother's friends sculpts and casts a lot of his own figures for War Hammer. Working with a pony would be no different - in fact because its bigger and less detailed it could be a little easier but it would be much more expensive in materials.

That being said for me, casting an MLP mould is a no-no. My brother's friend casts his own sculpts and his own designs - the key there being own design [and even doing this because its in the "them" of War Hammer is a bit of a grey area. But casting an MLP mould in any way is using a company's own product and it is illegal. Its the same reason that many Chinese manufacturers will happily give you a similar product...but not an exact reproduction of a Hasbro item.
