How to price rehairs?
« on: October 28, 2013, 10:08:37 PM »
Hi all,

I am wondering, how do you price rehairs? I have had several people enquire about buying mine but I don't know how to price them. None of my ponies have marked up, baity bodies. I only use NM-M poines with bad hair. I guess it depends on the bait used so lets give some examples...

Pink Dreams, rehaired using the knot method, custom glitter wings.

Up, Up and Away. Regular length hair.

Then Sundance. Eye repaint, glitter symbols, jewels, extra long hair.

Suggestions for these ponies would be good but this is meant as more of a discussion topic.

I think rehairs are hard to sell

But I would always charge about 10-15 for the work. I mean it's up to the method you use and also how many hair colors.
You also have to buy the hair so you need to calculate this to your costs as well.

I would say something around $25  for Pink Dreams would be okay.

I mean some bait bases are harder to get than others

For Sundance I would calculate about $20 =)

Prices are always hard to make cuz of course you don't want to banish your customers :D

I agree with Berry's pricing. Do take in to account how long it takes to complete the re-hairs and how much work you are putting in. I would be neat to offer a service where people could send you their ponies and you could to a alternate re-hair ;)

I sell my rehairs for anything between $15-30 depending on what pony it is (actually, up to $50 depending on WHO it is, have had some rarer ponies rehaired, like Argies and stuff) - but, normally I'm trading for things so it's more of an "estimate" that falls around that... I also take offers so, you know, people can make an offer that is reasonable and I'll accept. ;)

When it comes to prices, sometimes it seems like doing an alternate rehair is better than just replacing the original colour! (I love your alternates up there, by the way.)

It's a tricky business. You've got to pay yourself at least a little for all the work you did to put the new hair in, yet many customers won't want to pay more for a "modified" non-original pony. Sigh.

As for suggestions on these ponies, I wouldn't hesitate to pay $30 for that Pink Dreams if I was in the market. She's beautiful!!  Er... You're in England I see... so approximately  £18  :D
