I decided I should just tack this on to the original post I've been taking at least one picture of the eggs every day since they were laid on 10/16.

I will add another photo later today. The embryos now kind of look like little slugs with nubs where their gills will grow in over the next couple days.

Today I woke up to quite the surprise waiting for me in my axolotl tank.
For the past year I've had two axolotls, Flula and Pipsqueak. Flula was a confirmed male, and since I wasn't too interested in breeding I set out to get another male axie. I was pretty sure Pipsqueak was male...
Until I woke up this morning.
I noticed last night that he seemed to be floating a bit, so I would figured if he didn't stop over night I'd check him out in the morning (floating is a sign of gas built up in the gut and although that itself isn't dangerous, it can stress the axie out to not be on the bottom of the tank).
Well, I got up to see "him" still "floating" at the top of the tank, so I rolled out of bed to see what the deal was...
And the deal was that "he" was laying eggs on the plants, the filter, the wood, EVERYTHING that HER eggs would stick too. 
AHHH?!
Now I'm trying to get an old tank cleaned out to put the eggs in and secure some brine shrimp and a brine shrimp hatchery for them. o_o
I still feel weird about the fact that she's a girl! I thought this whole time she was a boy.
Should I rename her?

EEEEK! I've never seen an axolotl; they are adorable! Congratulations on the eggs  I wouldn't change her name; I think Pipsqueak is a cute name!

Aww, they're cute! And Pipsqueak works for girl or boy so I think it's fine.

Honestly I'd let her keep her current name. Of course I've never been too fussed on name "genders". I choose names I like regardless. And after all it isn't like she will be headed to school for the kids to tease.

They're beautiful! Pipsqueak's colors I like especially, and I think her name is fine. Good luck with your eggies; seems like a lot of them have been popping up here lately!

They aren't that rare I don't think, they're just not super common and usually aren't sold it pet stores. Breeders usually only sell them online to individuals.

the same thing happened to me with my pigeon After I rescued her I thought she was a boy and named her Steva (basically Steve in my language, and equally masculine) until one day she laid an egg!! Stupidly, at that point i wasn't even aware that birds can lay eggs without a partner so I was really taken aback!

Anyway, we decided to leave the name, so she was still knows and Steva the Pigeon
