What does it take to be a mod?

My curiosity is getting the better of me and I was wondering id a staff member would explain to us common ponies how mods are selected. Sorry If this is the wrong forum. I wasn't sure where to put this.

Well, when the site needs to recruit new mods, a mod call is usually made for people to apply.

There will be an announcement in each of the forums where mods are needed as well as in the corral, site announcements, and sometimes a few other popular forums. When it happens, there's generally quite a stir so if you are around, you'll most certainly know about it.
