Pony hair care advice?
« on: August 22, 2013, 09:13:06 AM »
Some questions for you guys:

So, what's the best way to condition frizzy pony hair?

What's the best way to straighten out pony hair that has been braided for long periods of time?

How do I remove a rust stain from tail hair?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

To de frizz hair I wash in warm water massage some human conditioner into the ponies hair leave for 3-4 minutes then comb through hair gently from the bottom up so not to pull the hair out! If really frizzy I run some hair irons (set on the lowest heat setting) over the hair maximum of three times while the hair is wet and with the conditioner in. Then wash out the conditioner and allow to dry.
I wouldn't use hot irons on perfume puff or colour change hair though.
this method will cure the hair thats been braided as well.  :) :)
with rust remove the head, take out the washer, clean the pony inside and shampoo the loose tail will help greatly. I use dish soap on rust to good effect! Once the tail is dry put a new washer on and put the pony back together. Voila!! :)

I like to wash the hair with Timotei, condition (don't take the conditioner out!) and after conditioner has been sitting in the hair for 5 mins+ boil up some water in a pan and dip in the ponies hair.

I then pull out my pony and comb her hair out flat, followed by styling. And just so you know, curls are suuuper forgiving!

My method should kill those braids, and for tail rust I remove the tail and bathe it in oxy solution.

With your first question do you mean condition it in order to straighten it?

Flat irons are always the best, quickest and easiest option for straightening and flattening; unfortunately unlike real hair if nylon has been braided for a very long time its not easily washed back to straight. So while you can wash and repeat and allow to drip dry and get a lot of it out, in order to remove it completely you normally need to use quite a high heat.

I like to do an overnight condition - smoother the hair in conditioner and wrap it in saran wrap - leave it 24 hours and then wash out. That is usually a good start and sometimes after another couple of washes if the wave/frizz was minor that can solve the problem. If not the next step is again condition the hair and then cm by cm use flat irons on the hair - do not repeatedly go over the same section of hair again and again - leave it to cool a little and then retuen to it. You want to use the heat to shock the plastic back into position but you dont want to overheat it as that can cause it to damage.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
