Ponylady summed it up quite nicely.  Also, some of the auctions that have month-long running times with a Buy It Now will eventually drop in price as the month goes on.  That gives me a better idea of whether the price I'm willing to pay would be close enough to what they would accept to be worth submitting.

Adding something to a watch list is like bookmarking it.  If you're not sure right now, but might want to bid later, it's easier to go back to your watchlist than search for it all over again.

Also, sometimes I do this because I'm curious if something will sell or not.

 I've had things on my Watch List for a couple years now - it's kind of like a bucket shopping list... "someday I want to get this" just so I don't forget about it (like a Lego set I wanted from my childhood, etc).

Yep, I use my watch list as a reminder for things I want once I have some money. I don't like using the offer thing, though. I guess because the first time I tried it, I was instantly (like not even a second later) turned down, and my offer wasn't far from the BIN price. I think it was like $5.99 or best offer and I offered $5 and as soon as I confirmed my offer, it said it was rejected. That kind of made me not want to bother trying anymore. I don't know how they work, but I'm guessing you set them to auto-reject offers below a certain amount?

I add things to my list if it interests me because I am usually surfing. I don't want to make any hasty decisions just in case I find something that interests me more.

Then I can go back through my list and narrow it down if I am in the buying mood.
This is exactly what I do.

Me too.  I also watch auctions with stuff similar to what I own sometimes, to find out what it's going for now.
