12th Doctor Who is revealed!

I don't actually know anything about him, so I have no idea. I trust Moffat's judgment in choosing actors to portray the character he writes. I just want more Dr.! Hurryhurryhurry!

I've never watched it. I feel like I might like, but with all of the seasons, I don't know where to start without getting confused.

Personally, I would start with the revival in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston as the Dr., but I think anytime the Dr. changes you could probably pick it up without being too confused for too long.

Since I feel so betrayed but smiths desicion to abandon the role after such a short time.. I really don't care who takes the role now as I will no longer be watching it. My doctors will always be numbers two and three and If I feel like watching a bit of who then my dvds will be just fine.

I don't know him, better say I've never heard of him before (I don't have a TV, and I'm really not a big film person, so please excuse me if he's famous and I now look like someone out of this world  ), so upon reading the name I had to do a Google Image search.
I think he seems to be an interesting person - I mean, his character and appearance totally make me imagine him as being the Doctor easily. from just those couple of pics I've seen I think he has a wide range of mimics, that adds to the role as well.
yes, he seems to be a big change (actually I was interested to see how the Doctor can get even younger looking - it seemed to be a tendency recently - than Matt Smith, so it's a little surprise to me that the Doctor's getting older again), but that's not a problem imo.

I'll be looking forward to see him - but I'll sure have to wait for that a little (given the fact in the first line, I can only watch TV - if I want to - about once a month when we visit the in-laws). I'm sure it will be - again - a different experience (not that fangirly I was used to with Mr. Tennant. that's fine though, I don't need any more platonic movie crushes  )!

I said the same thing to my husband!  I'm excited about it.  I started with Eccleston, and he's been my favorite.  I thought he was funny, and handsome (I like unique features .)  I liked Ten a lot, but thought Eleven was a little too goofy (still wonderful though.)  To each their own!  I'm betting that Peter Capaldi will be great in his own way.  I'm still meaning to go back and watch all the old ones that I can (Doctors One - Eight.)

Smith has been on the show for I believe 44 episodes. That's not exactly "abandoning the role after such a short time." That's only a couple of episodes less than Tennant, and far more than some other previous doctors.

The whole nature of Dr Who is change. I always think it's weird when people get super upset and outraged when the doctor regenerates. It's not like we didn't know it was coming. It's the very nature of the character!

That said, I love Peter Capaldi. I loved him in Torchwood, and I can't wait to see what he does

Apart from the Dr Who episode/Torchwood I haven't watched anything he's been in, so I'm glad he's to me a virtual 'Unknown'. Older too, which I am relieved at, never got into the current Dr, always thought he was more like the Drs younger more irritating cousin! (Sorry, Matt Smith fans!)

Maybe is just seems short to you, but he'll have been on the show for over 3 years. That's longer than: William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, and Christopher Eccleston.

Doctors come and go, that's how the show is. I always find it's best to just roll with it!

but the other doctors produced way more shows that he did. Also a timelord can only have 12 regenarations. They can get a new set but since the timelords and gallifray are gone then this will be the last dr who.

In the past we would get several seasons a year Now we get one. That is why I will  no longer watch it.

I think he was afraid of being typcasted which is just silly as everyone who played the doctor went on to have a great carear.
