First off, I should say that I like her because she is a little different.

However, with that being said, I can't help think of the diamond on her cheek like the tear drop tats that criminals get that represent someone they've killed. And then it makes me think of this image:

Eh, not my style. I like her colors, but I wish Hasbro had just recolored her 'cutie-mark' instead of adding more.

I don't think I can imagine Rarity dying her hair and painting symbols onto her Hasbro could have easily made this a new pony my giving her different eyes and a different cutie mark.

I like her because it is Rarity and not Pinkie Pie but, like everyone else is saying they could have made another pony. I just don't get the logic in the same ol' ponies over and over. All I see left on the shelves are the Mane Six and the other characters are all sold out. Heck, I even saw Mane six from Waves back on the shelves at out Target while Sunset Shimmer was gone.

The logic is that these toys are primarily aimed at little girls, who are watching the cartoon. Each day new little girls are finding the cartoon for the first time, and those new customers don't want some background character or a character they've never seen before. They want their favorite character that they see on the TV. Thus Hasbro has to keep the Mane 6 on the shelves at all times, to fulfill that need.

However that doesn't mean they couldn't ALSO have new characters on the shelf beside the Mane 6. Because yeah, kids aren't going to always want 55 copies of Pinkie Pie in different styles or with different hats or accessories, and parents aren't going to buy 55 Pinkie Pies even if their kids did want each new release. So it's a balance that Hasbro hasn't figured out yet.

But at least they'll be able to buy Wysteria, and Mrs. Dazzle Cake and Twirly Treats, and Sunset Shimmer, and (presumably, eventually) Minty, and all the princesses, and Queen Chrysalis and Diamond Dazzle Tiara and Lyra Heartstrings and Lyrica Lilac and Shining Armor, and all the various blindbag-sized character packs, and the background character Funko figures, and the background character Funrise plushies.
