Need advice on storing ponies
« on: July 24, 2013, 05:53:49 PM »
So we'll be doing quite a bit of renovation on our home for the next month, and all the ponies need to be packed up for their own protection.

All of my NRFB/MOC's are easy enough to store, though the number of giant plastic bins is kind of insane.

My question is... how would you pack away your loose G1's? Most are from my permanent collection and have all been cleaned and sent to the salon. Some are from the fair/swaps/finds... and I haven't had the chance to give them a proper once-over yet.

Would you put them in individual plastic baggies? Tissue paper? Bubble wrap? Toss 'em all in a bin and hope for the best?

I think I'll separate the cleaned ones from the thrift finds... I would hate for something to spread mold or something nasty.

Any advice would be great!! (oh, and once stored they'll all be in a climate controlled environment)   :)

Okay, I know I've seen a thread like this before. Let's see what I remember...

1.Wrap your ponies up in acid-free white tissue paper, bubble wrap, anything that will keep them safe and won't leave marks or discoloration.

2. Make sure not to stuff boxes or bins full so no one gets crushed.

3. Silica gel packets! Tossing a few in each bin is supposed to help with moisture or whatnot.

Primbrose it it all on the head :)

It does largely depend on how long the ponies are going to be stored for - if they are going to be tucked away for just a few weeks I would not be too worried but if you are talking about a longer time then you do need to get more cautious.

The only extra couple of things I would add would be - dont squeeze ponies too tightly together, plastic will warp out of shape. If you are using a plastic storage box which is coloured make sure to put a layer of bubble wrap between the plastic and the ponies. You dont want the ponies to "stick" to the plastic or the colour stain through the tissue paper with time. And make sure the boxes are breathable as well.
