I loved G3's.  Even though I was an 80's child and had some G1's my main collection was G3's until I gave most of them away regrettably.  I remember going to stores and seeing an entire aisle side filled with G3's and they were all different.  This was way before core 7.  G3's are special to me, because they got me back into collecting MLP event though at the time I thought I was too old for MLP.   The following pictures are from strawberry reef and MLP Wiki.

So many under appreciated G3s!  My favorites would definitely be:

-Princess Peppermint
-Yesterdaisy
-Fluttershy (even though she's super popular now)
-Brights Brightly (just such a unique name :P)
-Coconut Creme
-Fizzy Pop
-Piccolo
-Desert Rose

I love her color scheme, and totally agree about her being a favorite.

Some of my favorite overlooked G3s are the ones with the weird names -- they cause nostalgia for me because when the G3s first came out I was fascinated by the nonsensical names that some of the ponies had. Names such as Razzaroo or Tinka Tinka Too. :D

Of course, there are also the wonderful tropical ponies in my avatar. :)

i love Bee Bop her colors are just so beautiful, i still remember when i bought her.
also Island delight, butter pop (need her still), and royal twist are some of my favorites   :biggrin:

Candy Apple is one of the prettiest G3s ever, and Hasbro did a terrific job with her color scheme. Considering so many of their yellow ponies were paired with pink or blue or purple, to do those great shades of red.. it really works. I'm sad I don't have her yet!

My G3 wishlist also has Soda Float, Baby Keen Bean, Shenanigans and Desert Bloom. And Strawberry Reef - I'm not really sure how popular she is, outside of having a website named after her.
