Baiting a pony that still has her mane?
« on: July 13, 2013, 09:31:07 AM »
So I had asked about rehairing a Swirly Whirly to make it like the German one.
I found a bait at the fair, she's only missing her tail. But when I got her home she's almost better than the SW I have. (better color etc.) So I thought about just pulling the whole ponies tail and giving it to my "bait" pony. But now I'm not sure if cutting off either of their manes is okay to do?
I mean both of them are decent still maybe a short trim idk. But to just cut it all because I want a different color?
ACK I'm having pony ethics issues!

Honestly, with the "retired" generations, if the only thing that they are flawed with is a hair cut, I would prefer to restore them or pass them along to someone who is still looking for them for their collection.  It takes a LOT for me to consider a pony baity, though, so I might not be a good judge on that.

My thoughts are that the first Swirly Whirly you had was obviously good enough to make it into your collection, and this second one you just said was even nicer, save missing a tail.  That means you have two collection-worthy pieces.  *However* if you're wanting to rehair her as an alternate, you'd want her body nice still, too, so I totally get what you're getting at here...  hmmm....

Tough call, but in the end of the day, she's still your pony to do as you see fit with.  If it was me, I personally probably couldn't do it, but that's just me.

Yeah see! IDK maybe I'll just give my tail less pony a German Swirly Whirly color tail and leave her mane alone.
I think I'm feeling too bad to cut off her nice mane...

Honestly, SW isn't terribly HTF and if it's a bad enough haircut that will discourage collectors.  Even rerooting her in the same colors makes her less authentic.   If changing her hair would make her more special to you, I'd say go for it.

I didn't feel bad when I re-haired my gal. She was missing her tail and had a haircut. It's your pony if you'd like her better with a different color go for it!

It's your pony, do what you want! I've cut many a mane off a pony to do something like rehair her alternately...

Personally, in situations like this, I'd rather see the pony just get a replacement tail. Somewhere out there is a SW with a horrible hair cut already, or with hair so frizzy there's no fixing it...if her mane isn't even cut I just don't see the justification for ripping it out. :/ But she is yours, so if you would rather rehair her no one can stop you. =) Perhaps, alternatively, you could look around for someone who has SW with really bad hair, and who'd like to trade for your nice one. She isn't hard to find, but she isn't super common either, and I think she is decently sought after compared to the others in her set.

I would totally do the tail switch and then rehair = funny as I was going to mention going with that wisteria and mint-y blue green like the german as the new swirly combo to go with the symbol :-) and I think I saw some do a chocolate and red pomme or something combo and paint her symbol to be chocolate icecream with a cherry on top :-)

so yah, she's not too hard and if you love to have several of one, I would totally customize/rehair your original :-)

heck  - pass her along to me as I would love to swap for another pony and have her join her Mexican and german cousins ;-) (I need a third for the set - OK this is self serving so you can disregard)

easiest for preservation is just to swap or sell with someone else who will give her a replacement tail to restore :-)

your call = have fun :-)
