Why Do We Collect......

Its a great question and I guess we all have different reasons....So what's your reason....let us all know...Mine is easy its that moment when you turn the corner at a trift store or yard sale and there it IS a crazy huge pile of ponies or that ONE you have been hunting for....WHAT A RUSH

Well, I collect because my fiance' planted the collector bug in me!

I never had much as a child, and never really "collected" anything. But being in a relationship with someone who is so fanatical about collecting, and has so much passion for the hunt, you can't help but choose something to collect.

My collection makes my daughter and I smile. And gives her so much inspiration in her story telling, art and such. And my collection is entirely thanks to the most generous, sweet, and understanding, OCD collector of toys that I have ever met.

I collect because it makes me think of younger, more carefree days. Plus who in their right mind would not collect ponies?????

Nostalgia is a small element...the rest because they make me happy and of course because it brought me to the awesomeness that is the Arena!

They reminded me of childhood.

Which is probably why when I had my own kids, I didn't care for collecting them any more. I get to experience someone else's childhood.

Well, I've got the collector personality type, for starters.  I come from a line of collectors (my mum collected carousel horse music boxes for aeons; her mum collected porcelain, I think it was; there was an aunt in the Maritimes who collected salt & pepper shakers) so it seems kind of natural for me to have a collection of some sort.

But as for why ponies...  I guess because they make me happy.  And compared to some other collectibles, they're not too outrageously priced (at least, the ones I'm hunting aren't - I haven't been bitten by the Nirvana bug yet) and relatively easy to come by - you can still find ponies at garage sales or at thrift, but try finding a Royal Doulton figurine, or a Swarovski crystal thingie, or a Pandora bead... no go!

Plus, you guys.  The Arena rocks.

I collect because I was big on collecting them as a child. So thats the main reason I collect. I believe that the child in me wants to have every pony. I am happy I have something to collect too.

I agree! I had a very happy childhood and when I find G1 ponies it makes me feel like a little girl on Christmas morning all over again! Do I deny that I am an adult now? No, but I am a crafty/creative person naturally and I have fun finding old ponies that need a makeover and I very much enjoy restoring them

I collect because it is the best therapy so far for me, It is a return to innocence ,it takes my mind away from the ugly , depressing stuff  and well is something nice to focus on and get out there hunting for them It gets me out of the routine ! gets me in a good mood
who can resist pastel colored ponies anyway ?? LOL
