To those in the US who have recently shipped to Europe..
« on: June 26, 2013, 02:44:34 PM »
Okay! So the USPS website is claiming that anything with a 1/4 inch variance can no longer be posted in a padded envelope and must be posted in a box. The price has dramatically gone up. Is this true? Has anyone shipped to Germany lately? If so what was the cost of shipping for 1 pony? It would be a shame if US sellers have to charge $12 in shipping for 1 pony or a few baby ponies :(

I have shipped tons of stuff overseas as of recent in a bubbler. No one has said anything to me   The cost did go up back in January and it's around $8.99 to ship one pony now but like I said I have still been using bubblers.

I guess I will continue to do so until someone tells me :drama:

My understanding was that anything fatter than 1/4th of an inch would be charged as a "package" instead of the rate for envelopes-  and it did make the price go up a lot.  I don't think that there is any prohibition on mailing things fatter than 1/4th an inch, it just costs more.

I just shipped a padded envelope to Sweden a couple of days ago no problem.  Galactica is right - the 1/4" thing is for regular letters or cards - anything thicker than that gets bumped up into the package division.  Padded envelopes have always fallen under the package division as far as I know, and I've never had them require a box.

This. :) I use bubble mailers all the time, there is no issue with that. I ship internationally every week. Ponies are fat and will be charged as a package.

I ship in padded envelopes constantly, but for me it cost $12.75 to get a single G1 out of the US to Europe, since the price hike in January... but I have not heard about this! I hope it's not true...
