Factory Painted Colombian Baby
« on: June 11, 2013, 08:15:38 AM »
Hi everyone.

I have a very odd colombian baby pony on my hands.
I know (edited - Mexico) Argentina had a few ponies that were painted but I have never
Seen a colombian pony like that. My baby blossom has a super bright yellow body.
I first noticed that she was extra shiny with almost a gloss appearance.
My other babies have solid rubbery plastic bodies with no luster.
I was trying to clean a mark off her body when a piece of the painted coating came off
Exposing a dark grey layer underneath. Has anyone seen something
Like this with a colombian pony?

You can see the chipped paint beneath her symbol and in the inside of her leg on the nds photo
These photos were taken with no flash. You can also seen the shine her body has. I also added a photo of baby bowtie and baby blossom so you can see difference in body texture.

Hi minamarie,
She looks factory painted because her symbols are placed on the painted layer and they are the same paint that is used for other colombian ponies so it has to have
come from the factory like that.. I have never seen another with her shiny painted appearance before. Especially something that when you clean it, it starts to chip off.

I remember seeing a Colombian collectors pose adult on eBay a while back, and her body appeared to be fully painted. I figured it was a combination of flaws in the plastic & a poor photo, but seeing your baby pony has me wondering if that pony was actually painted, too.

how odd!

KKV I remember that pony as well :) I don't think we ever got to the bottom of the story behind that pony though.

PS it is the argie ponies that have painted bodies, I don't think we have seen a Mexican with a painted body.

O yes you are right.. My bad. I meant to say argies.. I remember Novia with painted body.
Do you think these could have been test batches? Like painting the color plastic they would want and then
checking the real plastic to see if its the right color?

My white Argie baby rainbow is also painted as I have patches that peeled off and she was decarded. So it sounds like only very white Argie ponies are painted (such as Novia and white rainbow baby)?

Your Colombian blossom baby is so cute! Congrats! I have noticed that a few Colombian ponies do seem to be painted (for example Colombian Blue adult blossom and Colombian Pegasus blossom baby listed on eBay). But not sure if they're real or not...

honestly it looks like a custom made... maybe a prototype like you suggest - is the pony body a no country?  stamped made in Colombia?  The rainbow hair doesn't look right, not as blended as it would normally be a lot more subtle

I thought those ebay Colombians with painted symbols were someone's idea of a bad restore - and this baby doesn't have factory paint - you know how good our customizers are here to make nirvana customs and so depending on how that mane looks - rooted?  and that tail - that's another feature - my Colombian babies are like the daddies = they have a slit, more rectangle hole, not the usual round - does this one?  hard to tell from pics provided

Not saying you don't have a prototype - I'd more thoroughly check her over to be sure (you know me)

Hey remember when there was a huge batch of Colombian babies/prototypes on ebay?  Cannot remember if it was a US seller - anyone save any pictures of that?  Or was the buyer a member here?  I dunno if that will help in identifying this at all... cool find

oh main other question I forgot to ask - is her head sealed shut?  looks it, so I understand if you don't want to just go popping her head off and chip more paint... that's why I was wondering if anyone might have more pics of prototype babies to see if that underlying body color has been spotted before and authenticated as from colombian - dark grey is an odd color (although not if it a US/mexican blossom...) since Colombia is so known for "colores vivos"

She is 100 percent legit in my opinion. From all the colombians that have passed through my collection i feel I have gained a pretty good knowlege base regarding consistancy versus forgeries.
I probably wouldn't have found out her
Top coat is factory painted if I hadn't
tried cleaning her up.  Her hair color pattern exactly matches my colombian baby bowtie.

Yes her head is sealed shut and no markings on her hooves.

Maycrestmom :). Check your yellow applejack. You will find she also has a similar color pattern in the hair. Blue row on the top and a lighter row underneath.

Here are the pics.

I wouldn't have thought she would be a test batch or a prototype, but that doesn't mean she isn't a legitimate Colombian.

Well we all know Colombia had issues with consistency control. Could be just a consistency problem with the factory.. The plastic ponies that didn't dye correctly probably got dipped in a factory paint before getting assembled

Indeed, that's very possible! I've wondered something similar with regard to the Argie painted ponies myself.
