3D Printer Bubbles!

I saw this in ED, has anyone else seen it!? SO MUCH WANT! Before I saw this.. I didnt even know 3D printers existed! (lame I know... live under rock lolol) HOw do 3D printers work, are these tangible figures!? What are they made out of!? Paprer, vinyl, silicone? Apparently they cost $30 for a limited time. Oh my gosh.... I love this Bubbles, this is so adorable! Does anyone have a 3D printer!? Help me, I want one! ♥♥♥

3D printers work off reading 3-d data fed through the computer to the printer, transforming material into the 3-d object. They're pretty expensive, though I just wrote for a company that started a Kickstarter to produce 3-d printers for under $400.  The objects are made out of plastic, vinyl, wood, etc.

Our school has about 4 3D printers. They are epic. Not good for home use though. I made a 3D USB stick holder in the shape of an orange segment for coursework 4 years ago

My Little Pony is a licensed, branded, copyrighted, trademarked property.  Reproducing ponies with 3D printers is illegal.    More so than Taobao.

I think you would run less risk making repro G1 stuff that is out of production than the current line. I guess you can make some kind of generic pony shape for those but the minute you start mass producing ones that look exactly like the ponies in stores or the characters in the show they will probably C&D you.

Yes well as Hasbro do not have a license to Dr Who merch rights...I would say they sail pretty close to the line of what is and isnt allowed themselves when they have a brown haired pony, wearing a bow tie, who carries a sonic screwdriver, travels in a Tardis and calls himself Dr Whooves [on merch with they as a company profit from].

Doctor Hooves is okay because it is a parody. An affectionate parody but a parody nonetheless. Tho most of the merch is made by companies that just happen to have both licenses.

It is still using what is licensed material without a licence - they certainly do not all have Dr Who merch licenses. As I mentioned its all a grey area and if Hasbro consider their actions permissible - i.e. selling on the back of another person/businesses creative concept , then perhaps that's why they are such an awesome company when it comes to appreciating creativeness in its fans.

I just think sometimes Hasbro are aware that they have a massive and creative fan base and are understandably catering to it - or perhaps it would be better to say understandably turning a blind eye.

The fan art/creations - be they completely original art or resin casts, clay moulds based on Hasbro moulds or Hasbro characters that we see on DA, on blogs or heck even in the Arena Customs/Art forums are technically no more respectful of the legality of the MLP brand than this particular little cutie. But no one is hurting the bottom line of what is a multi national corporation and I for one am grateful that they are not Disney, they seldom shut people down and that perhaps in their own way they support the creativeness of their fans.
