Ponies at Sea/Mexico
« on: June 01, 2013, 08:17:31 AM »
Well my hubby and I have decided we are going to live on a boat! Hehe we went on a trip to Mexico and it was something that really inspired us. I am not sure if it will be 100% boat or our house is a boat and we doc in other places. This is just the small start in planning this...we are talking a few years before we jump on it.

Well I am a pony collector. My husband is not making me get rid of my ponies, but I am not sure how to store since I have lived in the Midwest my whole life.

I will be down sizing my collection for sure. I might have my husbands family store my collection as well. But I want to take some of them with me. I have a feeling that I will store them in a plastic container as they do not need to get wet but any other advice. Out at sea salt water air....any ideas would be great.

If I do loose my collection, I will be going here to sell my collection. I want to have peace of mind that my loved ponies will go to collectors themselves....sigh this will be hard for me.

I am looking at storing advice, or even advice on this crazy adventure!

Ooooh how exciting!!! As for storage, white tissue paper is probably the best bet. I used to recommend ziplock bagging each pony, but a few ponies came out of the baggies with plastisizer leakage. I think if I use that method in the future, I'd keep the baggie slightly open. I was told by Hathorcat that plastic needs to 'breathe' I think that's important to keep in mind <3

I'm that way with my ponies too ^^ I love taking them down and styling thier hair! Squee!

Living at sea sounds so exciting! I think I would love that given the chance myself (except I have a morbid irrational fear of sharks). I would advise you not to bring all the ponies you really care about though. One or two yes, but I would worry about an accident taking all of my favorites away from me while out at sea. I do hope you and your hubby will remember to be safe and secure out there.

That sounds really exciting! I've never lived on a boat long-term (probably just 2 weeks at the longest), but my parents are sailors, and every summer of my childhood was spent on the boat and just generally by the water. Of course, as a kid, I often had my ponies with me - they've been exposed to so much salt water and salt air! I don't think they suffered any damage because of it (they did suffer damage due to lots of play and rough brushing, but that's unrelated!). I think that main thing you'd have to worry about is sun exposure. Also, in my own experience, my hair becomes impossibly tangled when it gets coated with salt (even just from the air!), so if you like to brush your ponies' hair, it might be good to wash them with fresh water beforehand to avoid frizzing problems from tangles.

That is a gut-wrenching decision! I could never sell/give up my collection.....ever!  :(

Please try to find some way of storing them - it seems *such* a pity to sell it after all those years of collecting and all the effort and love that has gone into building it up!!

I really hope you can find a good way of storing them so you will not have to part with them *HUGS!!!*

My entire collection is not going away:) I think I can store many of them with my hubbies parents in case we want to live off the boat...but I got into the gotta catch them all feeling and some of them are just there in my collection and not being as loved as they should be:)

I am so incredibly jealous. Honestly, what a beautiful life you will have! I think storing them would be great, but if you have any Newborn twins *coughcough* XD But no, seriously, store them, or sell some, make a profit, and use it to make your boat more homely for you! I can just imagine it, and it makes me wish I could lead a life like that! So beautiful.

It is not as hard or crazy as it sounds. On our trip to Mexico we spoke with people who up and did it the next day! Some even just live at the resorts and work part of the time to pay for their room or board:)

And maybe you want to just come along with us:)
