Dolyhair hank sizes
« on: May 29, 2013, 04:48:31 PM »
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't there a discussion not too long ago about shrinking hank-sizes of dollyhair? I am due to rehair some punky Raindrop and Nightlight and was hoping one hank of each necessary colour would be enough for both ponies. Any thoughts?

Yes, there has been much discussion about that. I had not had an issue until my most recent purchase. The previous hanks were at least 7 oz. Some of these were only 3 oz. Really disappointing. One might be enough, since it's not just one color for the whole pony, it's hard to know though.

far as i know the whole thing happen last year around Christmas time and it was address.

but it depends on how long you decide to make the hair.
i was able to hair one summerwing pony with super long hair with half a hank of the "shrinking" sized ones. and i went back and rethicked a few of the plugs. by super long i mean about 8 to 10 inches.
which is long for me. i'm very much a factory length type of person.
if they are colors you can use for other customs in the future. i'd get extra just to be on the safe side.

I placed an order a few months ago and the hanks sizes were good, some even more then the standard 16g.  A couple were 17-20g actually, but the order was wrong.  However, the mistakes were corrected and I recently placed another large order.

Ditto I recently placed 2 very large orders, and all was completely fine, shipping was good, I'm actually very pleased - given I was a little worried due to all the drama. I would suggest though, if you have the cash, get extra. For me having a bit left over for future is better than not having enough. And thickening up original mane thickness is always a good thing IMO.

As far as thickening original mane sizes go, I'm not entirely in favour, the resulting locks can be too stiff and stick up too much or look out of place, and I have had a poor pony come to me with split plugs from an over-zealous re-rooter (it was a Greek Parasol *sigh*)

Dolly Hair Hank Size
« Reply #9 on: June 07, 2013, 06:16:01 PM »
Can someone tell me what size the MLP hair from Dolly Hair is supposed to be?  After the issue with all the underweight hanks I thought Tina posted somewhere that each MLP hank would be 16g.  Or am I wrong?  Just trying to confirm, thanks!

I recently discovered a good way to measure length is by using the natural "bends" in the hank. I can rehair a G4 with 1/4 of the hank, a G3 with 1/2, etc. Of course that's just length, how thick you want will leave more or less of the hank as well :)

I was asking because my most recent order included 17 MLP Hanks that weighed in range from 13g-15g.  Only 1 was the full weight of 16g.  I wanted to be sure I had my facts correct before sending her an email.  I hate to make a big deal out of it but I was just really bummed especially when the colors I really needed were only 13g.  Am I being too sensitive about it?

I've ordered from her within the last few months and all the hanks seemed to be on target, and were more than enough for all the rehairs and customs I did.
