They remind me a little of Kinder Surprise toys.
they look like Kinder surprise, they do specials like Disney characters, my son got one Cars and one Toy story for his birthday.sorry too sick to read all five pages to this post if someone has mentioned this already. anyways i would put my money on it that's what they are.yay now i can hunt for them

These are Gatcha figures, made by the Japanese toy company Takara-Tomy. They're sold in regular stores, usually with the trading cards. I usually find them at Target. They come several of the plastic ball capsules to a big box and they're usually sold blind. But there's a few tiny holes in the capsule so you can see inside if you look carefully. Of course, the pony ones look to be more translucent than the Super Mario ones I've bought for my son, so maybe these won't be sold blind.
