Full Disclosure : I have a pre-order in for this set.

It can't be licensing fees, Mattel owns MH. Is Nightmare's paint job that pricey ? Or is TRU that gouge-y ?

It's the saddle, thats the extra 20$ charge for a fancy saddle

*takes a bite of doombunnies cheesecake*

I'm glad you pointed out your thoughts on the Raven/sleeping beauty connection, thats been driving me crazy for a few hours, but now i remember it!

I still want to know what the significance o that "372" is though!

Could the 372 just be the address number of the building? That was my first impression when I saw it?

Also Nightmare is just cooler that's why she costs more..lol

AWwwwwwww shucks! Thanks Melissa! and how cool to share a bday with a fellow MH fan, HAPPY bday Bow Tie!!!

As for the 372, it could indeed just be the address, I just wondered if it had significance in a fairy tale and was too lazy to research it beyond wikipedia a googleing it

TRU *is* that gouge-y.  Plus that set is like a special thing for the MH line, so they probably think they can get away with that ridiculous price, and obviously they're right if the pre-orders keep selling out.  Also, I have to say, that Snow White doll doesn't look very articulated, and Nightmare is way cooler looking and better sculpted than the Snow White horse.

Simplest answer: It's Toys R Us, it's what they do.

comparing side by side they are the same horse!! What the hell?! XD

It's a combination of super popular big name for a toy and it being a TRU exclusive (well, TRU in general, but still). They know it'll sell at that price (which is evident by the fact it's gone up like twice and the entire listen taken down twice instead of it being marked as out of stock) therefore they don't think there is anything wrong with that.

It isn't the exaaact same horse. Sure, they're both cheap, brittly plastic with scrawny legs, but Nightmare has sliightly thicker hooves, more angles and ANGRY eyes on his face, and his ears point the same way (though that could be an angle difference) plus TWO colors of shorter hair. Clearly, there are lots of differences in the two ponies. Cough.
In other news, if the Headless Headmistresses' shirt, coat, and tie aren't separate pieces, I may just flat out return her when I get her, and screw them for charging so much for a doll without even decent detail.

Oh, and Nightmare also might have a bridle permanently glued to his face, which does explain the angry- I'd be pissed if someone glued stuff to my head too.

Y'know, I glare eeevery time someone says their opinion is humble. Mostly because if you need to state it, it can't possibly be. And I read too much Pratchett.

Nice try, but IMHO can also mean "in my honest opinion" and that's how I used it

Thats how I use IMHO - H=Honest not Humble to me :)

Now see, I've never heard it that way- everyone I've ever read/heard says humble, so I assumed that was the only acronym. I retract my snark then.

Heheh, yeah. They really are that gouge-y!  -_-

Those Disney Princess horses are actually surprisingly small in proportion to the dolls. (I know in this picture that Snow White's on his back sidesaddle, but when you see the set in package, the horse really is super short.) Nightmare appears to be bigger overall... he's as tall as HHM, if she had her head on. And she's the Nefera mold too right? Which is definitely taller than your average princess.

Anyway, Nightmare'd BETTER be fairly big in reality, not just made to look so in the promo pic  :P (Plus at least his head's totally different. And cooler. XD)

But... the price IS still gouge-y as heck!
