Ok I'm gonna put this in a spoiler but just as a warning, if you don't want to hear about dead creatures in a bin or taxidermy, don't read it!

I don't think mlp4me is ever going to shop with me again even though she says she wasn't totally mortified. So we are going through some goodwill outlet bins, and I find them. Dead mice. Not just newly dead...mummified. I'm kind of a farm girl at heart. No problem with dead animals. I pick them up and put them in a container. I was totally tempted to take them home because I've been looking at taxidermy rats and mice lately because I can't have rats in my apartment but most of what I see they're so lumpy and disheveled and not plump and smooth like a domestic rodent should be. I don't think the taxidermists see rodents as something they need to make nice like a beloved pet. Anywho, one of the guys who works there that I know was freaking out and trying to get me to give them to him so he could throw them out. I was like, "no, I might want them to arrange on a display". He even got another guy to come out and try and get them but this guy didn't have a problem with them. Eventually I let him have them to throw out though because they weren't exactly mumified in a good position and they weren't very clean. I don't think any of the people at the outlet at that time as me will ever again think I'm sane. What a world!

Wow, this story actually made me feel a little nauseated. Gross.....

That reminds me that we have a mummified coyote in our garage. Thing must be decades old. My dad found it at a farm we used to own and kept it. It's so creepy looking. O_O

The poor thing had an awful death. His leg got caught in a trap. The trap is still on it's leg. The coyote has turned into almost what looks like leather (though I haven't touched it personally.....eww OMG). It has no eyes and has this evil look on its face. If I can get my dad to take it down from the shelf I could take a pic and PM it to ya, since you like that sort of stuff.

Even though the thing creeps me out, I'm pretty glad my dad kept it. It's something that could actually be collectible someday and museum-worthy. Plus it's just unique and cool looking in that scary way.

THIS is why heavy gloves should always be worn at Goodwill outlets. I found a number of kitchen knives too at the last one- you may be risking your health by going to one!

I admittedly am morbidly curious about that coyote, DazzleKitty. So when you say your dad found it, did he find the actual taxidermy or did he find the animal and then preserve it himself?

I've never been to a Goodwill outlet so I'm glad that I'm finding threads like these. If I ever get the chance, I'll be prepared by making sure that I am wearing gloves, maybe even two on each hand. Eehhhh.

I just can't get over the fact that someone donated DEAD MICE to Goodwill. That's really... interesting. LOL!

Hmm, well I can't say much about you wanting to keep them I collect fossils and bones and stuff. Some of it I buy but the majority I've found myself. I have on more than one occasion buried a dead animal I've found and returned to the spot months later to dig it up, and take the skull >.>
