Father Daughter Dance Suggestions?
« on: April 24, 2013, 10:22:14 AM »
My wedding is in under 3 months and I have no idea what to use for the father-daughter dance!  My dad has always been an important part of my life, and, while he could be a little tough at times when I was a kid, he really helped to shape me into who I am now.  He was always supportive, and took me on tons of adventures, hiking, rafting, para-sailing, skiing.  I would have had a much more boring life without his influence!

I've been trying since I got engaged last June to think of something and I'm really struggling.  I want something that would thank him for being there for me, but maybe not too sappy, because I cry every time I even think about dancing with him, and I don't want to flood the dance floor!   I've been leaning towards Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide", but I really just don't know.  I also don't really want something about how the daughter is leaving (because she's married now) and the dad is sad, because that's just depressing!  Help!!

Alas, that would make it too easy.  I asked him if he would like any song in particular, but he didn't have one in mind haha

I'm having the same problem! I'll follow this thread. :P

The only ones I can think of for mine are "Friends in Low Places" and Jimmy Buffet songs, which are entirely inappropriate for wedding songs!

LOL, my dad is so difficult.  He's a little tone def, so while he likes music, it's generally not one song in particular, nor do I remember him listening to any song for any length of time.  He does like Jackson Browne and Poco though, which I know mainly because we went to their concerts, but they don't have any really appropriate songs for a father-daughter dance that I can think of!  I remember him making fun of the Smash Mouth "All Star" song for a while, but not really appropriate or my style haha

What about "Little Miss Magic"?  It's Jimmy Buffet, but definitely a father-daughter song!

My sister danced to this country song with my dad at her wedding.  It was called "I Loved Her First" by Heartland.  Not a dry eye in the house during that one, so if you're a cryer it might not be the best choice.

I picked Paul Brandt's "It's a Beautiful Thing" for our family dance (we did the father/daughter and mother/son song together).

I know other people have used Butterfly Kisses (sorry, forget who does it).

Another sweet one is Stealing Cinderella by Chuck Wicks (another country song).

My adoped Dad and I danced to Amarillo by Morning (George Strait) because the lyrics fit his life story! Now that he has passed on, I listen to that song and remember how happy we both were that day dancing! It was one of the best memories I have with him, and I cherish it with all my life. He was an amazing man that touched my life in ways I cannot even begin to understand.

Amarillo by morning, up from San Antone.
Everything that I've got is just what I've got on.
I ain't got a dime, but what I got is mine.
I ain't rich, but lord I'm free.
Amarillo by morning, Amarillo's where I'll be!
Man who wear lampshade on head is bright!

Butterfly Kisses!! Bob Carlisle
It's so sweet. Makes me cry though so maybe not the best choice.

I think I have little more information about what I'm looking for than I did yesterday.

I spent some time at my dad's house last night, and thus thinking about this.  He has been going through some tough stuff at work recently, which is just terrible, because he as worked hard and been honest all his life, and now it seems he's being thrown under the bus while the less honest people are being rewarded.  He just seems so sad.  I think I want something that is from the daughter to her dad, thanking him for being such a strong part of her life, because I think he really deserves that right now.

I'm thinking about "Song for my Dad"  by Nancy Sinatra, but it goes a little fast in the middle and he doesn't dance really, so I'm not sure.  Any other suggestions for something like that?  More from the daughter's point of view?

Mine was Cleaning this Gun by Rodney Athkins, I loved the song and it was a little light music to lighten my already tense dad. I didnt know dads could get nervous!
I did a parent dance where I played Thank You by Led Zepplin Im not much for led zepplin but they was.
Glitter for everyone! :fireworks:
