Did anyone actually order mail-order Ponies?

my mum was (and still is) EXTREMELY paranoid about mail order and online shopping. basically anything to do with not actually buying physical objects. so i was never able to order anything ever...

I grew up overseas I am afraid, on a tiny little island and apparently ordering them from the States was near impossible. Or, at least that's what my parents told me :x

I was lucky enough to buy G1's in the store, however, we received items 6-8 mos after they were released stateside, and during this time numerous ponies never made it. On occasion I'd buy G1's straight from China, some are rare variants so I feel compensated.
 
Also, I still have about 150 points from the G3 mail order line but I never used them Oh if only I had a time machine.

My parents got me and my sister tons of the mail orders. I remember us negotiating over who got which three of the TAF babies like someone would negotiate a war treaty.

I love reading here about all the childhood memories of staring at the pamphlets--I did plenty of that!

I did get a number of MOs:
Collector Ponies: Blossom, Blue Belle (who I never liked that much), Snuzzle
Playset Ponies: Majesty, Sprinkles (pink one!), Lemon Drop (a friend got the babies)
Lil' Tot (one you got w/ box tops--I know I named her something else)
Baby Cuddles & Buggy (but ugh the MO was the BBE one!)

I really really really wanted Butterscotch, the Pretty Parlor (ended up getting a secondhand one from a friend), and Sundance (Megan and Sundance were MO for a while, but I didn't like Megan and I only wanted Sundance NSS, which wasn't how she came as a MO).  I wanted Ember AKA My Beautiful Baby Pony but at that point I had maybe 1-2 ponies so FIVE horseshoe points seemed impossible . . .

I did at one point. I think I got the rainbow ponies and a few other mail orders I can't remember all of them. though I am kicking myself for not keeping any of my mail orders or the rest of my childhood ponies. :/ I lost all but two.

Only one I ever got was Love Wishes. I saved up points for SO long for her. Immediately after I got her they stopped doing Pony Points.
Now you can buy her in bulk and she isn't that special. :/ She's still special to me though, I was so excited for her.

Did you always have to send the points in?  Because that was one of the biggest deterrents I had.  Mom wouldn't buy the cereals that had the points.  If it was a cereal we did get, we never ate enough to earn enough points.  And my mom wasn't going to order things for us or help us figure out how to get them.

My parents blew me away one birthday by presenting me with a full set of MO Sparkle Ponies. I was too shy to actually ASK them to help order stuff & they must have caught me ogling the brochures!

I've still got a bunch of old brochures and horseshoe points packed away somewheres.

my step dad ordered me my birthflower one year for my bday and shes still very special to me, don't like the pony at all lol but i love the memory of feeling special enough to my new dad for him to go thru that trouble for his new lil girl

and he is still supportive of my ponies and even takes interest in them, much more than my mom or anyone else for that matter :0
he also put a G2 keychain in my stocking when i was a teenager back in the 90's (before i began collecting again) because he knew i still loved them.
and last year he bought me a G4, white one with ice cream symbol. dont know her name

but ya my dads got my back where ponies are concerned!!

IIRC you had the option of paying cash or buying the ponies with points, at least on some of the later promotions.

These were the following I got as a child:
Stockings, Goldilocks, Valentines Twins, Kellogs Christmas Baby and the pink & purple Ember. Wish I had done all of them or picked the one that were worth more today, lol!

I have the two Embers and Love Wishes. I wish they'd bring back points and mail orders and the like !

As hathorcat mentioned, the mail order options were limited in the UK, but I did order Baby Lucky and was thrilled when he arrived in his brown cardboard box I also received the three club babies.

Later in the line, there was a mail in offer via the club just before it folded that had a bit of an odd selection. My sister and I both used pony points to order a talking pony (we hoped for different ones, but ended up both getting Chatterbox) and I think that was where my Magical Breeze came from as well, though I can't say for sure on that one. I remember ordering the talking ponies though.
