Don't be scared...give it a try! (pic heavy maybe)
« on: April 04, 2013, 07:24:58 AM »
I have decided I am well on my way to gaining an NVQ in pony hairdressing!

So a little while ago I posted asking about what hair straighteners people use and Hathorcat showed me the ones she was using (thank you ^.^). So I set out on a trek to look at them in store, however I was afraid of them as it didn't say they had variable temperatures
Being a bit scared I looked for another set by the same makers with a variable temperature and found some on half price. I would never have bought them full price as I didn't want to pay loads for something I was potentially going to ruin. So I got a set of Babyliss pro digital 230. There lowest temp is 140c and the highest 230c

I got home, and here is what I did with them on the 140c setting.:

I'm so pleased with the result She had previously been washed and conditioner left in, but whilst it made her soft it didn't help much with the frizz.
She's still a bit dry at the end of the tail but much better than she was. She's a double so I felt I could test on her. A question though... would she originally have had a curl to her hair?

Anyway, anyone scared of doing it I say get out there and give it a go! It was super easy with all the advice that's on here, and I only dripped scolding water/conditioner off the straighteners once onto my leg >_<

I have tried this before.
I use it inc cases of extreme frizz!
It works well to smooth :)

I love the arenas advice and tutorials. Every pony can be beautified!

I was terrified to do this at first, but I've had great success now! Especially with a couple of my poor brush 'n grow ponies who had some definite issues. Everyone should give it a try. :)

Thanks everyone ^_^

I was so afraid of ruining the hair... or the straighteners going boom lol.

I did try a more gentle method first but in the end I felt the only answer was to be brave.
I wanted anyone else whose new to ponies, or a bit scared of doing it to see my first attempt in the hope it would inspire others to be brave :good:

I sit with a towel over my legs when I straighten, it helps with the whole not calding yourself thing! not to mention you can hold them between your knees so you have more control over the hair, and you're less likely again to burn it. She looks great, by the way, congrats on learning a helpful new skill!

Me too, me too! Is there supposed to be some other way to hold a pony when straightening hair?  :snicker:

Yeah, I should have thought. It was fine as I was doing over a table with towel on there, but my eagerness to see the result after each bit meant I pulled the straighteners back, forgetting it was a fresh strand, and it just bubbled off onto my leg  >_<
Should have sat tucked under the table properly like a good girl

I think the ones you showed me would be really good because of their size, but I feel safer with these lol.

Thanks for the picture. I have another one that had good hair to start with and it has a slight kink where it looks like it had a curl, so I thought she might have once. Maybe I will try and put it back in this one.

But first... more ponies to straighten :devious:

She looks lovely well done!  ^.^

Nice experiment :)

Believe it or not Ive straightened G1 Princess Ponies with my Ghd straighteners.....worked out fine actually! But only used it for a couple of seconds at a time!

I think I have some straighteners with variable temp I might use instead though! I think I got lucky haha.
