MH Glossary / List of Terms & Acronyms
« on: April 04, 2013, 12:00:53 AM »
Starting a new collection/joining a new fandom so often means getting hit with a whole bunch of unfamiliar lingo, so I wondered if posting a glossary of sorts might be helpful for new fans. I actually have a list that I put together and PM'd someone a while back, and I just found it again on my computer. It's not doing anyone any good just sitting there, so, well, here it is! I hope this may help new folks decode the MH conversation :)

Future updates to this list are over here on the MHArena!

:nerdy: MH-Specific Doll Terms & Acronyms

13W = 13 Wishes

:nerdy: General Doll Collecting Terms, Not Specific to MH

Bait = a doll intended for customization, often but not necessarily a damaged doll. Some dolls are rare/sought-after to the extent that they would have to be severely damaged to be widely considered bait.
Case Assortment = the standard box of dolls of a particular line sent to a retailer, sometimes with set quantities of each particular doll within, sometimes random (MH dolls frequently come in cases of 6, often 2x/2x/1x/1x of four different dolls, or 2x of three different dolls.)

OOAK = one of a kind

Playline = mass-produced dolls whose primary audience is children; widely stocked at big stores like Walmart, Target, TRU, etc. Playline dolls can have high collectibility as well--MH is a prime example.
QC = quality control
Rebody = transplanting a doll's head onto a new/different body

Split = term for sharing the purchase of a doll between two (or more) people: one takes the nude doll, another takes the stock outfit, etc
Stock = original state of a doll, as it was produced. Frequent uses: "full stock", "stock outfit", "stock faceup", etc.
TBR = to be released

This would make a nice sticky!  It would be cool to add and "other commonly used accronyms" to the post that includes MIB, FP, etc. as there could be people that are not familiar with them.  Just a suggestion  :)

Great list Zombelina! But wouldn't Headless Headmistress Bloodgood be HHB?

I don't have anything new to add, other than thanks for putting together this useful list, and I second the idea to also add a second section on more general dolly collecting acronyms (ooak, oob, mib, etc). :)

A more general acronym section is a great idea, thanks guys! :hug: I will update!

Sprinkles, I think I've mostly seen her name written as HHM Bloodgood, but HHB totally makes sense for her full name! I'll add it in  ^.^

Okay, updated and prettified it a bit :lol: More suggestions welcome!

This sticky is awsome and will be soooooooooooo helpful!  :)

especially for those of us that are just getting interested in doll customization ... I so want to be brave but I am scared of ruining a doll LOL

Could we add the definition of "bait" condition - I had to google that to learn that it was a slightly damaged doll that is acceptable to someone wanting to customize.  Learn something new every day LOL.  How about definition of "Wonk-Eyed"  that term was new for me too when I got here LOL.

Zombielina: This just occured to me while writing about them in another thread, How about adding the nick names and initials folks use to shorten actual characters names??? i.e:
Draculaura= Lala or DL
Lagoona= Goona

etc, etc (I can't think of too many others)
