PC help on a FSF Jolene (turned into FSF memories)
« on: April 03, 2013, 08:48:05 AM »
FSF gurus, what do you regard as a reasonable amount to pay for a Jolene with no accessories and some paint scuffs? I'm a little confused since her price seems to fluctuate a lot and the $40 mentioned in this thread sounds a tad high to me. There's one I could possibly get locally but I find her to be on the expensive side; however, if she truly is worth that much, it just might be a good deal once we count shipping.

Jolene can be somewhat HTF, although I've seen her around more than say, the scented sweet sixteens.   Plus there aren't a ton of people who collect them (although they do seem to be gaining popularity), which can also make pricing difficult.  IMO I'd pay $40 - $50 if she had all/some of her accessories, but just by herself that seems a tad high.

How bad are her paint scuffs?

Thank you for your replies. I second that the fluctuations must be due to the size of the collecting community. I've seen a Jolene that sold for $5 or something not too long ago. Also, she seems to appear in lots now and then. (I got my Bobbi in a dirt cheap lot of what I thought to be baits - well, most were.) I don't know how correct I am but I've considered the 2 other (non-Janis) Song Stars to be "medium-rare", not quite worth $40 alone. I wish I had picked up some of the harder-to-find fillies a few years ago... at the time when I was rich and there were fillies around, I was out of toy collecting. -__-

As for the paint, no huge chips but there seems to be noticeable wear to the pearlized coating and some paint loss to her legs. The seller's pics are not the crispest.

Yeah, the $40 seems pretty steep.

Well I won't be getting her but I don't know whether I should laugh or cry over it because the winner will be paying somewhat dearly.

Why is Janis so much more expensive than Jolene?  Not long ago I saw a NM and near complete Janis sell for $400!
Nirvana grails:  Reverse Gusty (upgrade), Peru Windy and Moonstone (upgrade), Brazil TAF upgrades, Argie Powder w/ white hair (upgrade), French Windy and Moondancer (upgrades), Spain TAF's, TE's, and piggies.  These are my biggest wants, but I'm looking for tons more nirvanas, especially Greeks, Brazilians, and Peruvians.  Feel free to PM me for sales or trades.  But please note that I'm also fairly picky.

A Janis in the nude wouldn't be quite worth that much as some of her accessories alone can fetch $100. As for why she's so popular, I have no idea.

Probably because she hardly ever pops up for sale.  And maybe that fuels collectors to want her even more, you know?

I have a complete Janis, but that's because she's from my childhood.  In fact, I have all sets of the sweet sixteens, complete, from my childhood. They sidetracked me from MLP for a bit, lol.

However my Jolene was given to me by one of my friends.  We would play Fashion Star Fillies all the time, (and for whatever reason we would always fight over Janel!)  But once we got into high school, she knew I still had mine for collecting purposes, and gave me her Jolene and Dara, both complete.  And then we were roommates in college!

:lmao: Great memories. I'm too young to have been around when the FSFs hit the shelves (I was born in 1990 - just barely early enough to have played with G1 MLPs as a child). Some of the fillies were sold where I live, at least the original series and possibly the first set of sixteens, but I assume they weren't found in large numbers because they're quite scarce on the second-hand market. I have a vague memory of seeing a FSF advert in an older horse magazine for little girls. Perhaps because they were reminiscent of the horses I used to draw? I got my hands on the actual toys only much later and haven't been willing to catch 'em all, but there are a few that I really like.
