Super FLUFF! Rehaired Pinkie Pie and Sundance [pic heavy!]
« on: March 19, 2013, 05:02:29 PM »
Hey everyone! I finally dove into the world of customs, so these are my first few rehairs! Of course I just couldn't do things conventionally, so these rehairs are done with brushed-out yarn. The finished product is incredibly thick, fluffy, and soft, and feels pretty much just like mohair!

First up is Pinkie Pie, rehaired and styled to look much more like in-show Pinkie!

Here's her before cutting and styling - holy 80s batman!

Next is Sundance rehaired, with some nice soft pink yarn fiber.

And as a bonus, here's a WIP! I'm rehairing Lyra with the same method, only the brushed-out yarn is also straightened... this makes it VERY much like super-high-quality faux fur, so after it's cut it will be very easy to style into Lyra's in-show hairstyle!

It's SUPER shiny and lush. So thick you can barely see the roots!

Hope you all enjoy, thanks for looking! :D

I'm not usually a fan of puffy fluffy hair, but these are great, especially Pinkie! Can't wait to see the finished Lyra :D

Beautiful!  I LOVE Lyra's look!  Looks almost as smooth as nylon there, but with much needed volume!

OMG That sundance is so gorgeous with perfume puff-y hair! Love them all. You wouldn't happen to be selling Sundance by chance?

She's not for sale, unfortunately! I could, however, do one JUST like it if I were provided with another Sundance, or any other pony for that matter! I really like doing these yarn rehairs. :D I could rehair any pony for $14 + return shipping & yarn costs! (IF you want colors I don't already have - it's typically ~$4 per color, and I could post a pic of my stock if you or anyone wanted.)

I would love them and pet them and name them George!  What kind of yarn are you using?

The particular brand was Bernat Satin, but any 100% acrylic yarn works! The softer the better - avoid scratchy cheap "bulk" acrylic yarn like Red Heart or I Love This Yarn.

Oh man I so do not like rehairing but I think I might need a Minty like your Lyra, so might need to look you up when I am liquid again.   Do you comb it out after you put it in?

I'd love to do a minty! Also, I comb the yarn out before putting it in. I cut strands of yarn to size, fold them in half, then brush them all out individually. In the case of Lyra, the strands then get straightened individually, then brushed again. It's a decent amount of work! After the plus are all in, the straightened yarn hair is very brushable and smooth, but the poofy yarn hair is a bit too thick to run a brush through. It can still be teased, separated, and styled though, and combed with your fingers.
