Price diference
« on: March 19, 2013, 10:38:04 AM »
Before I moved from Lisbon I bought this figure Yamashita´s Poison Ivy from a local store the price was 48,99. On an online store from the same country the price is 68,99, without shipping. If this was the price with shipping it was o.k. but it isn´t. How come the difference is so big?

How long ago did you buy it? Has the figure been retired or become hard to find?

depends on a lot of factors ...

1) rarity. even if you JUSt bought it, some figures have limited runs and once they're gone, they're gone for good. some pieces are limited to a couple hundred pieces or a couple thousand.

2) character. popular is popular, and poison ivy is one of the more popular baddie vixens out there. girls and guys collect her.

3) modifications. sometimes a figure is released, then later in the production it gets modified for one reason or another usually making and early run more valuable ... this happened a LOT with Todd Mcfarlane's Spawn figures back when they actually  made action figures and not cheap-butt "sport statues" ... ugh ...

4) order size. the more a store orders typically the cheaper they get them.

5) profit. some places just see dollar signs and will jack the price up becase they know that somewhere someone is willing to pay whatever price they see to own the figure they want ...

6) import cost. if it has to be imported, welcome to HIGHER COST. ... busou shinkis are awful to buy in the US ... soooooooooooo expensive ... but the same exact figure can be bought in japan for like half the price ... shipping/customs fees/insurance/etc all add in here ...

... usually it just comes down to PROFIT ... people see money signs and what more of it  ...

Retailers just vary for many reasons, some of which are listed above.  You can see something at one store for $10 and another for $16 all the time.

I usually assume that it's just greed on the part of the seller. Kinda like how music or video games cost the same when you buy them physically as they do when you download them digitally (even though the first one includes all the extra materials).

A seller can charge whatever price they want to.  The buyer does not have to always pay that price - they can walk away and find another seller.

Supply and demand me thinks.  If noone buys, the price goes down.

For example there was a physical store named Jikai, that sell the cheapest figures, 1/8 scale was 48,99 and now online they are 120,00. It´s a shame that the store closed, I bought a lot of figures there.
