Original Pony TV Series?

I only ever saw part of one My Little Pony episode from the '80's show, due to our lack of cable. But I know there's been some DVDs of some stuff out for years now, and last I knew, YouTube had at least some of the episodes. I've been wanting to give it a try.

I'm wondering if anyone has good recommendations for episodes to start with? Also, does Sugarberry ever appear on the show?

I think you should start at the start with My Little pony, so Rescue from Midnight Castle would be good to watch.

However, My little pony isn't very bogged down with continuity, so any episode would work, assuming you were watching the first part part of a storyline first (Eg, Return of Tambulon part 1 instead of 2 and over).

As for Sugerberry, I don't think she ever showed up in the original series.

I agree you wont get confused if you watch the episodes in your own order. I think Rescue from Midnight Castle however is always the best place to start. And my personal fav is Ice Cream Wars. And while I dont doubt I could be forgetting something I dont remember Sugarberry popping up at any particular time.

Mimic and the magic horse shoes as well as the Princess ponies are available on DVD now and I think they're some good episodes you might find them on Youtube 

My little pony tales is on youtube also and while the episodes do have a certain order most of the episodes are self contained and very sitcom like so you can start from anywhere

I'd say start with Midnight Castle, though keep in mind it's generally considered the best of the series, though also a bit different than the rest (except escape from Catrina). Also, I feel like the rest of the series is very hit or miss...some episodes are a lot of fun, others not so much, so while you really can start anywhere, you might need to watch a few to get a feel for the show.

I would also suggest the MLP movie, I believe its supposed to take place before the TV series starts (chronologically). Although I must admit, I don't know how difficult the movie is to get a hold of these days.

Thank you so much for your comments and links! I'll watch the first episodes first and then maybe I'll do my standard thing of reading summaries to find which ones sound the most interesting to me to watch next. I tend to watch all shows that way, unless they have to be seen in order.

Quality-wise the TV series is not always as good as the movies. Some of the animations/plots are entertainingly bad And so is the continuity, one episode might give a pony a very distinct personality trait and then another episode might have the same pony acting completely differently. It's fun to catch the slip-ups like this

G1:  Don't expect quality from the animation.

G4:  Don't expect quality from the toys.

Honestly the Movie is the best of them all!

Babystarz: Ah yes, movies often do have better animation and continuity than TV cartoons. I find it aggravating when people don't write characters the same way. I often go on rants about continuity (or lack of it) in live-action shows.

Lovesbabysquirmy: Haha! I love all generations of the toys, but I definitely agree that the G4s are not the same quality as G1s. I couldn't even get into the line until I fell in love with the show. Now I love the toys, but I deeply miss the lack of variety.

I read summaries of all the episodes and the movie, and I ended up watching The Magic Coins first. (Ooops.) But I was able to follow it just fine, and I loved it! I wondered if the show would be really kiddie, but it was great. Lots of intense goings-on and action and adventure! Some friendship squee never hurts, either! (LOL, I'm amused by the Odd Couple bit they got going at the end.) And I've promptly decided I like Megan and Wind Whistler a lot.

I definitely think I'll love this show, character discrepancies aside.

My favorite episode is Midnight castle, always was, even when I was little, but my favorite pony from the show is wind whistler. Second favorite episode is the big brother episode....Somnambula is what that one is called.
