What do you use for hair ties?
« on: March 02, 2013, 05:16:27 PM »
I'm trying to figure out what to use when I'm restyling hair.  Everything I see is too big.  So I thought I'd ask you all.
Right now I've got little bobbypins holding Howleen's hair back but I don't want to use that permanantly.

For my DC Howleen, I used the plastic band they used for her pigtails and pulled her hair back into a ponytail. I try to keep the plastic bands that come with the dolls just in case for something like this!

I use whatever elastics come with the dolls as well. I keep as many elastics from deboxing as I can just for that!

I've found the same things - often called 'clear elastics' - at various dollar stores for a buck or so.
Check any local Dollar General, Family Dollar, Dollar Trees you may have. I've seen 'em in brown,
black, and bright rainbow mix, too.

But yeah, I'm cheep. I save all the ones from the packaging I can, too ! I usually get four per new doll,
sometimes more, in any size from 'angel on the head of a pin hair tie' to 'Chevy fender temporary tie-down'.

Oh thanks Dorrie.  I have a dollar general just down the street from me.  I'll check there and see if I can find some.
I was also wondering if little baby (human ) barretts might work too?????  If I were pulling back a bunch of hair.  Has anyone tried those?

A lot of people use those orthodontal rubber bands for braces.

Thanks mejohnson. I am curious about the clips you use.

andi.....I did think about those little rubber bands but didn't know if you could really twist them around and actually use them or not.

Found these at a Dollar Tree last year - they're perfectly doll-sized !

I think I still saw 'em last time I was there. Also saw them at DolGen. They work great ! Some of them blend right into MH hair colors.

I have some clips as well. I find them to work all right, but sometimes I really need a band for a nice tight ponytail. Unfortunately I find that removing almost any type of band results in the removal of some hair strands as well, so I avoid using them. Either I need to find better bands or I need to work more carefully!

Thank you everyone.  I'm heading out to run some errands here in a little bit and will see if I can find some of the clips you showed me.....and check out the "clear elastics" too.

Have you tried cutting them off if they are those little clear elastics... I know it seems like a waste, but I got a pack of like 500 for $2-$3 at walmart...  ^.^

Ah, now that I hadn't thought of. I'll be stopping by the supermarket today and I'll check the hair accessories to see if I can find any. Customers will no doubt be wondering what a man is doing looking as such things, but I'll be discreet!
