Awesome new chapter, lalalei! It's just disheartening sometimes that most older gen fans are collectors only, with not much intrest in the fiction. I'm glad there are people here who are into fanfic, I just sometimes feel like a pony fiction fan/fanfiction author and reader lost in a sea of collectors. *Sigh*

However, yes MLP collectors do tend to be exactly that toy collectors. That's not to say there is not a small and select group who read fan fiction with interest. We are also a much smaller community than the current FiM fandom so a small group within a small community is not going to have the same level of impact. In addition, unlike FiM when people come to a fandom because of a "story" and cartoon, therefore fan fiction is a natural lead on from this, most MLP collectors will come to the community because of toys and therefore fan fiction is not a natural link. You can see from the number of people who have clicked on and read this thread that I am sure there is plenty of interest.
A lot more older collectors were into fanfic before G3 came along. I think it was because there was a more limited number of ponies to collect. Also, the fandom was younger at the time (mostly teens and college aged, just due to the age most people who had played with MLPs as a kid and then gotten nostalgic tended to be), and I think that demographic has more free time to write in.I do get nostalgic for the days when everyone had their own minute website and their own little fanfic going on!
I don't read much fanfiction of any series, mostly because I seem to wind up finding the ones with the storyline that is essentially about a poorly developed FC/OC who falls in love with the author's favorite character
