I like the Bad Seed, Harvey, Arsenic and Old Lace, Papillon, anything with animals like The Shaggy Dog, Ugly Dachshund, Thomasina, The Great Rupert. Not that those are very old compared to silent movies. I like old George Pal cartoons too.

"the cabinet of dr. caligari", "metropolis", and "carnival of souls" are three of my top favs ... they NEVER go out of fashion with me  ...

wasp woman, attack of the giant gila monsters, teenagers from outerspace, the hands of orloc, etc etc so on and so forth ... my movie collection is not that interesting to most people ... lmao black and white, several without sound, ALL with really cheesy horrible grapics ... lol LOVE EM!

OMG! Carnival of Souls and Teenagers from Outer Space! (are you into MST3K?)
I can't pic a favorite old movie. My favorite scary ones are The Haunting, Carnival of Souls and The Screaming Skull. I love old musicals like 7 Brides for 7 Brothers, Calamity Jane and The Music Man.
I LOVE Buster Keaton! Steamboat Bill Jr. and The General are amazing.
I also LOVE old public service announcements and short educational films, especially from the 50's. (I call them old propaganda shorts XD).

We should have a little club and everyone watch the same old movie once a week and we can discuss ;) lol. Oh man, I keep forgetting to rent The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari! Thanks for reminding me :D
Are you two my long lost movie twins? I can't get enough of cheesy black-and-white horror movies and bad PSAs from the 50s! (And I'm a huge MST3K fan, grew up on it.) I would be totally for an old movie club! Maybe extra credit shorts as well? I know where to find a big archive of just Coronet educational films.

Outside of cheesy horror, one of my favorite old movies (and favorite movies overall) is Inherit the Wind. Not for the controversy, but the acting is fantastic and the story is fascinating. It may not be 100% historically accurate, but it's great none-the-less.

Not specifically a movie, but I love watching re-runs of The Twilight Zone... Something about the writing, the actors, the sets, the suspense...

Am not sure it is old enough for you, I'm not a real movie buff. One of my favorite movies is "What Ever Happened To Baby Jane". I like the twisted ones

Loving this thread. I'm not as into silent cinema as some of you (I'm trying to train myself to be able to watch them - I find them difficult to concentrate on after a life of dialogue ;) ) but a lot of my favourite movies are older ones.

Film noir, musicals & sci-fi are probably my favourite genres for old films. So The Big Sleep, Dark Passage, In a Lonely Place, Key Largo, Laura (I watched this movie about 7 times in one week the first time I saw it), Phantom Lady (the shadows! The camera angles! Swoon!), The Blue Dahlia, Kiss Me Deadly...Calamity Jane, On the Town, Singin' in the Rain, Easter Parade...Forbidden Planet, The Day the Earth Stood Still, The War of the Worlds (the use of coloured lighting in this movie and the end scene!!!),

And then there's The Philadelphia Story, The Thin Man...oh and all the beach movies from the 60s with Frankie & Annette!!! (If we are going 60s too haha) And I love Italian & French movies too.

ANY Hitchcock, my favourites including North by Northwest, The Lady Vanishes, Rebecca, Rope, Spellbound, Notorious...

And I like not as old as some mentioned here like Barbarella, Danger: Diabolik, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, Suspiria and a million more. Like The Servant!!!

My favourite actors include Humphrey Bogart, Doris Day, Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, Dirk Bogarde, Sophia Loren...

Oh and to the people who mentioned Carnival of Souls: one of the best movies ever!!!

Sorry I could just talk about movies (of any era) forever!

Metropolis, Rope, Strangers on a Train, The Haunting...

And more generally:
The melodramas of Tennessee Williams, American movies from the 1970s, body horror, and horror movies from the 1980s.

I LOVE Cary Grant, Myrna Loy, and Grace Kelly.  One of my favorite films of all time is "The Best Years of Our Lives" (1946).

I NEED to watch Rebecca AGAIN! I LOVE that one!!
TrixieStix: That roller-skating scene by Gene Kelly is one of the greatest scenes of all time. He just blows my mind.
You guys are making me want to have a serious movie marathon! I am taking notes on some of them I haven't seen and will be watching...

Also, guess who just picked up the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari from the library??

We really need to start a club :)  Ponies and Popcorn or something? ;) We could do an old movie once every 2 weeks or so. We could give reviews and take pix of our ponies watching/reenacting? Lol.

Also: fun fact about me: My High School's Prom was held at 'Salt Air' that super-creepy abandoned lakeside 'resort' in Carnival of Souls. I wish I had known about CofS back in high school, I could have gone as a floater zombie. Half the dance floor was waterlogged (it was pretty much a disaster). Ahhh, good times.
