My Mom collects too, she knows the difference between the generations, and she comes home with bags of ponies for us to dig through! One Easter, without me knowing, she went completely nuts on Ebay and bought something like 30 ponies. Then she hid them all, still without me knowing. It was amazing to keep turning corners and looking into trees and finding more ponies! (This is when I was about 30 years old)
The ponies in her collection actually live with my collection, so we just call it Our Collection. When I lived a little closer to her, she would sometimes come over to my house before I got home, she would let herself in and I would find her in the pony room, just talking to her ponies.
I haven't convinced her to join the Arena yet, though! I'll tell her about you, CM, maybe that will nudge her!

That's great! My mom is always on the lookout for ponies for me at thrift shops and whatnot, but I don't know what I would do if she was able to tell me the name, and generation, and then finally tell me she is keeping it for herself. I think the mixture of shock and joy would be too much. lol

What a sweet story, thanks for sharing!  The title of this thread combined with your opening lines of how supportive your mom has been with your pony collecting, I began to think, "Oh no... she went berserk and decided to get all mean about the ponies!"  And then I kept reading and it got AWESOME. 

I can't imagine my mother ever being a crazy pony fan, BUT I did buy her a custom made by fellow arena member simplysteffie (a beautiful white pegasus with gradients of pink hair in straw curls and a cherry blossom design painted on her).  Anyway, she absolutely loves it.  So she may not be a collector in the proper sense, but she's still cool.  She also sends me ponies that I buy from sellers in the States who either don't ship to the UK or have exorbitant shipping costs.  Love my mom and miss her sooooo much.  Being separated by the Atlantic is very depressing.
