Is this a problem with Sunbeam?
« on: January 31, 2013, 01:10:14 PM »
I really like Sumbeam and have been looking at her on Ebay for a while, but it seems like all of them have the symbol worn off in part or whole. Is this a specific problem for her or have I just been unlucky?

Actually I think its a problem with her in general. You will be able to find her without too much glitter loss given time and patience but I think there is something about her body colour and the undercoating glitter colour which are so close to one another in shade that often she looks as though she has lost or is loosing her symbol.

So its not you! I do think she is prone to a lot of glitter loss and also prone to not photographing fantastically.

I think this set in general has problems with glitter loss since it's the first set with glitter. Sunbeam seems to be affected worse than others though. It's a shame, she's such a pretty pony!

I have her and she is in beautiful shape! She does exist, but is hard to come by NM. I spent AGES looking for the one I have :)

I think it's a problem with the first set of unicorns and pegasi, too. A lot of my early glittery ponies are missing a good bit of their symbol.

Oh yes, Sunbeam is a hard one to find NM or mint.  I agree that there is something about the way her glitter was applied that makes her especially prone to glitter loss.  If you think about it, Moondancer tends to lose her moons much more readily than her stars, whereas Glory loses her stars faster than her streaks, so it seems like different symbols/elements were applied with varying degrees of thickness/permanence.

I had a mint Sunbeam in childhood but alas!  I sent her to the Salvation Army in high school:(
Looking for CF Minty, excellent condition! (and maybe Snuzzle and Blue Belle)

The year 2 glitter symbol ponies in general are common as heck but hard to find in great shape. If not glitter loss, they also get tiny little rust spots forming on their symbols.

I was just gonna take a pic of my really minty Sunbeam, then I noticed that she's not so minty anymore. Her symbols have started to rust. :( There's little to no glitter missing though, so she's gorgeus anyway. I hope the symbols don't get completely rusted.
