UK people, which sealant?
« on: January 31, 2013, 08:28:08 AM »
I'm sure this has most likely been asked, but the search isnt helping me today! So I need a sealant for paint and apoxie sculpt, I've heard mention of modge podge(?) but can that be bought here? I'm in Ireland, not the U.K. so an online shop would be better! Thanks :)

Sorry- I shouldn't but in because I'm not a UK person- but seriously any any art store and any online art store that you can access will have mod podge-  and I would say nearly every craft store too...

Here is a lovely listing of Irish art supply places I just stumbled upon!  :D

Oh that was handy, I must use google more I suppose!! I've just never seen anything like it around, the art stores here can be crap..I've seen regular acrylic sealant but not sure if Its the same? Weight just freaks me out to buy on ebay, with shipping costs :)

For sure it is very heavy- so if you can buy it local you totally should.   'Specially with the new shipping charges :(

Ugh...well the one advantage I have is that I've got a U.K postal address for heavier objects and the likes of amazon with the free shipping etc!

I must ask I just googled there, and theres so many types! Is there a special one to use or is it just dependant on whether you want a matte kr shimmer finish?

There are definitely different finishes (glossy, matte or even outdoor!)  - I think there are probably a number of companies that make it too-

It is essentially a whitish looking gluey substance that dries clear, so you can use it for glue or sealant-  great stuff!  I just buy the regular matte finish usually

Thanks for the help <3

No I bought stuff before and it dried as sticky, so don't wanna make the same mistake again after all the hard work! I'll start trawling a few stores tomorrow hopefully, feel a bit silly now I assumed that modge podge was just something to but in the U.S.!! Lol

Oh for sure a sticky coating is not ideal for customizing!  I hope you find what you need without too much trouble!

Heres hoping! I asked well in advance anyway in case it was something I'd have to get online, I won't need it for a week or two I'd say..

Thanks a million anyways! :)

I can get modgepodge at my local craft store, i think they only have matte, thats what i use. i have to say i was eally surprised, they don't get it tin often though, you should ask your local craft shop, chances are they can order it in for you or may stock it behind the desk. Im in the uk and could get you some if you like but it would still cost you on postage =/

I use Testors Dullcote for all of mine, you can also get a glossy version.
