Well in this case it was mad easy! Because it's not a full body repaint. This here is the pony in her original skin. And sadly I'm not the person to ask about FBRs, I've never attempted one. However the person you should ask is diana_arcuri. She does the best.

in my small experience with FBR, I would definitely prefer to paint first, then rehair.  But there are some projects where I've thought about rehairing and then painting, not that i've done it, it's just an idea that has crossed my mind.  I would try to cover the hair in some way, of course, tie it, cover with some plastic so it won't be playing around your paintwork, and for the roots, I might consider use masking tape to cover them, but one for artists, being sure that it won't leave residues in the hair!  Of course, it's all matter of trying techniques, nobody said it is impossible, but it might require extra work
