How do winger wings take the heat
« on: January 17, 2013, 12:25:10 AM »
I just got a baity little winger in the mail, my first one, cute as ever with her original wings!  :inlove:

But when I got her in my hands I noticed these terrible bite marks on her legs, her front nds leg for example is torn half way trough...

I thought that I could do a little fixing-up with polymer clay, but am a bit worried about how her wings will take the heat... Or is there an easy way to take them off for a while? They seem to be quite firmly attached...

Definitely don't put her in the oven! I would try Apoxie or some other self/air curing clay, or if polymer clay is your only choice, try to cure it with boiling water instead.

I've never had any wingers so I'm not sure if you can remove the wings without damaging them. Hope someone else can give you advice on that. :)

Her wings will melt so please don't bake her!

I secon Griffin's advice. Boiling water is a fabulous way of curing baked clay when an oven is not an option.

The wings will melt if they are exposed to too great a heat. I am not a customiser so I cant speak to the better options for clay but the above ladies sure do know what they are talking about. :) And if you still prefer the oven then you you can remove a wingers wings. They are just one joint piece slid under her back plate but the back plate is held in place through the body with a plug - the only way to remove the plug is to cut it away and then return the wings and hold them and the back plate in place with glue.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

I thought that the baking would be a poor idea, thanks for confirming that.

I can't leave her like this, though, she just deserves so much more...

Thanks for the boiling tip, I'd never heard of that before. Think I'll try it with a small bit of clay first to see what happens. Don't want to rush into ruining her for good...  >_<

If its just her foot I'd be inclined to try the boiling water method of curing.
It's better than leaving her with that wound!

Yup, it's just her legs. There are some smaller bite marks on her other legs that I would maybe want to cover up too if I decide to start playing with the clay, but that big wound is definitely the worst of it.

Milliput superfine white would be my go-to for patching those wounds.  It'll cure on its own, no dangerous heat, and it's just lovely stuff.
