I had one. It was "parked" on my shelf full of Matchbox and Hotwheels cars as a kid. Have always been curious as to why/how Matchbox chose to make this line.

Maybe Matchbox was trying to reach the "girl market".  Except that I remember girls playing with and collecting the cars just as much as the boys back then.  At least I know my friends and I did.

I had the Carousel as a child and I remember the local newsagents having the horses for sale, nearly every week id get one with my pocket money.

My sister got the stand and we had a huge collection between us, the 'lid' on the carousel was full of petite ponies and the small plastic charms

..........................................and then my dad binned it a few years ago

I only have the original carousel box after finding it in the loft and I gave it to my sister after she got a carousel of ebay

I have a few of these - they are stunningly intricate up close, so so pretty. I had the carousel but sold it (kept the horses) because it took up too much space, kinda wish I hadn't now!

I'm curious as to how much one is devalued by removing it from its packaging. Does anyone have an ideas? Is it frowned upon in the same manner deboxing a G1 is or is it considered ok?

Me too! By the looks of the prices, it does devalue it a bit.

I have a whole bunch of these. I do watch them on ebay when they come up and the prices can be really funny. Like, some loose horses or animals can sometimes sell for $5 but suddenly those same loose ones will sell for $40. Likewise, some MOC horses/animals sell for about $30 one day, then another week the same MOC horse/animal will sells quite high, like $70.
In my opinion, there are fewer collectors of these, so if you wanted to decard that wouldn't be frowned on. And there do seem to be many carded horses and even animals (especially reindeer and camels) going around so it shouldn't be too bad.

I personally never buy carded ones because I can't bear to debox them.  Timpertie is right about the prices being all over the place.  I've seen that with some other horse collectibles that are not as popular as mlp.

That seriously sucks when that happens. I don't know what happened to some of my toys either, like those quint things? Although I was friends with a thief for a bit before she wasn't allowed to come over anymore. Maybe that's where they went.
