Multiplayer PS3 games

I'm looking for an alternative to sitting on the couch watching movies and TV shows with my b/f. I know that Playstation 3 doesn't have much in its multiplayer library, but is there anything you can recommend to me?

We both really like first-person shooters. Can anyone recommend a FPS?

I've already established we're not going to play: fighting games (e.g. Tekken - it gets boring too quickly), Little Big Planet (he's not interested), sports games (e.g. Football, cricket, wrestling - I'm not interested).

He has Guitar Hero and two guitars, but no DLC - so that got boring very quickly. I don't think he's interested in buying DLC. Plus, I think this type of game is more fun at a party. 

So yeah, we're looking at first-person shooters or maybe a co-operative adventure game.

Well, since you don't like fighting games, I would suggest Resident Evil 5 & 6. They're pretty awesome.

And maybe look into Blazblue, as really, those games are more visual novels with a fighting game element.

Well, there's Borderlands 2, but I think you need two PS3s to play multiplayer with this game.

There's also Deadstorm pirates, but you need two PS Moves to play I think.

@Gothic_Redemption: Resident Evil has never really been my thing, but it might be worth a shot. Never heard of Blazblue - I'll have to look that up.

@RAMChYLD: B/f has Borderlands 2 on his PC. If we were living together we'd totally team up. We would play online via Steam, but we're often not at home at the same time (or if he's not doing anything, I would be visiting his house).

PS Move: Hmm, not sure I want to shell out for new peripherals only to be used for casual play.

I only know of good online multiplayer games for PS3 really. I'm guessing you're looking for games to play locally (on one PS3 in the same room), right?

Too bad he isn't interested in Little Big Planet! That game is a blast.

I know some of the Call of Duty games have some two player modes. You can't play through the story line together, but they have some sorta mini games like capture the flag and stuff like that. COD: Modern Warfare 3 (I think) had a mode where you and another player fight off waves of enemies, I played that with my Dad over the summer, it can be pretty fun!

Yeah, it looks like multiplayer means "online" rather than "in the same room", which is what I want. LOL.

If I wanted to play multiplayer online, I could just... buy Borderlands 2 and play it on Steam. But I'm looking for more things to do together. Maybe I should dig up a cheap Wii or some older Playstation or Nintendo console.

It's not out quite yet, but Serious Sam 3: BFE is coming out for the PS3 sometime this year, and it has up to 4 player splitscreen. It's pretty much a game where you shoot hundreds of monsters with ridiculous weapons. You get a literal cannon later on. (or earlier if you find it in a secret area) It's an absolute blast, even more so if you're playing co-op. You can even go up to 16 players if you play online, tho I'm not sure if you can do splitscreen online.
Also, what's your steam, if you don't mind me asking?

You're looking for games with co-op campaigns, not multiplayer. xD
 
I have a PS3, but I usually only play single-player games on it.  I keep co-op and multiplayer games on the 360 and Steam. ><

I /think/ Deadrising 2 has a local co-op mode, but I could be wrong.

I would really recommend the Far Cry 3 Coop. I have been playing it with my boyfriend since Christmas and we are really enjoying it. You don't need to have played any of the previous ones as it's a standalone story. It's a separate game from the main storyline too so the game is really worth the money I think!
