Different Gen Princess Preference

First gen first wave princesses mainly for sentimental reasons: that set made up the majority of my childhood herd and I watched Quest of the Princess Ponies obssessively

I also like that the G4 ponies actually, you know, rule.  You get a sense they're making laws or something.   If the G1 ponies didn't even KNOW about the G1 princesses, they can't have been very useful.   Hey, how about using those wands to take out some of the ravening monsters and wizards crawling all over Dream Valley?

Hey, maybe they would have gotten around to it if they had ever settled down and decided who would be queen, since Rosedust and Majesty were pretty active at decision-making in media where they were considered queens.  I don't know if the toys ever go into what's special about the princesses or what they have to do all day, or if it's all just a matter of "We need some more princesses this year, cuz princesses sell!"

G1 princesses, first set but mainly for the accessories.  . There's hats and wands and bushwoolies and dragons!  I love their sparkly wands (and I know the second set has them also but they are so expensive!)

As for ruling?  I guess g4, because I really like Luna.

The original G1s. I adored them so much when I was young and I still favor that set even now.

I will admit that the G2 line had some pretty princesses too.

I thought I'd give a quick rundown of the Princess ponies in the UK comics, since they're way different than their US counterparts.

Princess Sapphire (in the US, Royal Blue):  Described on her backcard as the "wise princess."  Soon you will see why the others cannot be described as such. 

Princess Aquamarine (in the US, Serena):  Daydreaming romantic who spends the day staring at waves on the beach.  Her daydreaming can cause literal clouds to appear, which is . . . useful for water crops, I guess?  Seriously though, you do not want her representing your district of Ponyland, she is going to be dreaming about Prince Handsome Fetlocks eloping with Princess Heavenly Hock instead of legislating like she's supposed to.

Princess Ruby (in the US, Primrose):  She is indecisive and rushes from task to task, never completing any of them.  She is also the snootiest of the princesses.

Princess Amber (in the US, Starburst):  Sometimes Princess Amber sees flashing lights around her head that tell her to go on a secret mission.  Either she is some kind of pony James Bond or she has been eating too many of Sweetie's egg sweets.

Princess Pearl (in the US, Tiffany):  She is the weepy princess who cries a lot.  She cries when she's happy.  She cries when she's sad.  She is rumored to own significant stock in Kleenex brand tissues.

Princess Amethyst (in the US, Sparkle):  She is eager to help everyone, even if they don't want her help.  Whenever she wants to help someone, a bunch of flowers materialize in front of her, and then everyone has to assist her in figuring out who they belong too before it causes and international incident.  Not a useful princess, but the most likely to star in a sitcom someday.

I nearly choked on my waffles when I read the "princesses killed my family" option   Anyway, I had to choose G1, because some of my favourite ponies are in that set (Princess Tiffany and Princess Sparkle, and of course, Princess Serena).  Though the G4 Princesses come in a close 2nd.

G4! I just got my white Celestia and Luna brushables, and I think they're gorgeous. Plus I really like Luna as a character.

Haha, thanks, Man. It's funny how hatred for all princesses seems to be winning out over eyelash princesses. How about some love for Groucho?!

And Teddy, other than Celestia being pink, what's not to like about the G4 princesses?

LadyMD, you're spot on! The G1 princesses were worthless when it came to any royal duty.

Let's also not forget that G4 princesses also brought us perhaps the coolest, most bada$$ character ever! Nightmare Moon! Evil black pony with cat eyes? I just don't see how any of the others can compare with that! They can make Shining Armor pink for all I care, because after giving us such a great Nightmare Moon pony, I'm happy fo-evas! (not that I won't continue to demand more boys, crystal ponies, and a king sombra and Queen Chrys)

I'm just not satisfied with the way the some of the  toys for the princesses look. Now as characters in the show they're great! I love Luna but sometimes seeing the toys for them is weird. I don't know maybe its just because with G4 I want them to be as show accurate as possible and with G1 I don't really have to worry about that...
