I know that sometimes a parent will tuck away something and forget they did it or where they put it. I know my mom had done that when I was a kid, later on she was going through a storage area for her sewing and found some old stocking stuffers she had put in there 4 years before for us. It wasn't anything exciting just some stickers and such, but someone else could have done something similar with toys.
Also people buy in bulk when there is a sale or clearance and they stock up for birthdays/holidays and say they pass away, or get sick so those just sit there in a closet.

alot is unsold store stock.. I've been finding alot of 90's toys MOC at the flea market from one seller lately at the flea market. They must of bought out the warehouse that Alberstons had here in florida.. since most stores have gone out of business here the left over stock now is finally surfacing. I probably missed out on the G1 MOC stuff, but I'm crossing my fingers it will turn up, since I know my albertson's had G1 Ponies on the shelves until about 1995-96. :)

Hmmm I'm guessing.
1. Stuff got forgotten like brought for kids never given to them and so they got left in a cupboard or whatever
2. Some people thought they'd be more valuable some days
3. Some shops shut down and so they had unopened stock
