I just wanted to report that RetroDolls' kanekalon isn't quite the same as Dollyhair's in that it's not as soft, but rather, it's sleeker and has a more plasticky edge. If you're familiar with the kanekalon used on certain Monster High dolls, this is not it.

It is, however, spectacularly shiny, with a sheen not unlike "brilliant" nylon. It's just beautiful. @_@

I recently saw a type of hair at a beauty store called Toyokalon. Is this okay to use? It feels very soft.

LadyPom - Toyokalon is a type of silky kankelon hair generally used for weaves. If you like, use it Usually weave hair can be heatstyled with boiling water.
