You grew up! And lost your horn...

I was just browsing eBay (a dangerous habit, I might add) and noticed Baby TAF Sweet Tooth is a unicorn, but her normal adult TAF form is an earth pony. Then I see Baby TAF Up, Up, and Away and it's the same thing! I don't know why I never noticed this before as I've definitely looked at these ponies many times before.

So I'm kind of curious if there are only ponies like this (through any generation) that were one thing as a baby and another as an adult? Or maybe the same pony getting a re-do, like SS and TAF Fifi.

The horn could be inherited from their father, or could be a recessive gene that was inherited from a grandmother.

When they made the first set of babies into mail order pearly body babies they named Baby Moondancer, Baby Moondreamer - somehow they forgot her name.

So I just think for whatever reason they either forgot or it just didn't matter if they matched the mother exactly.

Starting with 1987, they got kind of lax on adults and corresponding babies being the same.  Baby Fifi had no horn despite adult Fifi being a unicorn.  They were more interested gimmicks of the sets than the characters those ponies represent.

I've noticed that and it cracks me up.  I think Up Up and Away makes an adorable unicorn, so it doesn't really bother me lol.  I think of them as the actual babies, not like past versions.  So rather than UU&A growing from a uni to an earth pony, she is an earth pony who had a unicorn baby.  That's how it works in my brain at least.

Well to be fair Fifi started out as an earthling - check her backcard and sticker!  She, Twist (?), and Bunny Hop somehow switched species.    I think Truly did too somewhere down the line, but she never had a baby. 

But I think they did that to the TAF babies so there would be 2 of each species.  If they hadn't there would be 4 earthlings and 1 unicorn and pegasus.

I dont think Hasbro got lax with babies and mummies, I think as Skeen says often it was largely about balancing out sets.

Also, yes Baby Fifi is an earth pony and her mum is a unicorn...but notice that Baby Fifi is one of the few earth babies in the earlier years to get herself a streak in her mane - something which at the time was largely the domain of unicorns. So I think that was an adorable tough!
