Should I re-pink?
« on: December 09, 2012, 12:09:19 AM »
I recently got my hands on a pretty much mint condition Mountain Boy, Tornado. He is flawless with the exception of his faded hair. It is completely white.

I have re-pinked many ponies of lesser value before with success. I don't plan on selling him anytime soon, but am hesitant to re-pink because I heard it decreases the value. At the same time, I'd like to display him to look as close to his original condition as possible, pink hair and all. What would you do in this situation? I'm torn.

I'd not re-pink. Common ponies maybe, but not him. Maybe continue to look for a mint one, or find one with terrible hair to re-hair? It's just my opinion, after all he is yours to do what makes you happiest!

I personally wouldn't repink Tornado, there are still Tornado's out there that have beautiful pink hair. Maybe wait for one to show up? Up to you though. :)

I myself would re-pink him - why? Because it fades back to white given time and sunlight- and I have never seen it lower the value. Let him have his pretty pink hair again.

I would definitely re-pink him. With faded to white hair he is not wholly original anyway and as Ivy says it can always be faded out at a later date if someone wanted to (but no idea why someone would want to do that!). I very much doubt that it would affect the value of him at all.

Its not so much a devalue [unless the shade is completely wrong] but it is something you would have to admit in his description if you were going to sell him.

Its a tough call and it probably depends on how confident you are - if you are sure you can get the perfect shade with no issues and no staining then go for it. If you are not certain then I would leave him white. As a badly re pinked pony will be devalued.

I repink ponies all the time. The only one I horribly failed at was Strawberry Swirl, but I was trying to make her hair red, not pink (her body got badly stained). She was my first try though, and I learned a lot.

I would definitely re-pink Tornado. I re-pinked a Steamer/Tracks and his hair was amazing afterward. I always use food coloring though, not RIT.

This exactly.

If you are confident and experienced, go for it.  I would do it as I like my ponies to look as close to original as possible.

Totally agree! Ponies are always happiest when they look their best! I have no issues restoring rare or exotic (Nirvana) ponies to their former glory. I personally like the way my Tornado looks with white, but I wouldn't have any qualms about repinking him if my mood changed!
