Ummm... I was interested in making my own music boxes for a bit, so... Hang on, lemme check my bookmarks.

Edit: Right - woodworking supply stores, like Rockler and Woodcraft Hobby, may have something. Here's one kit that Rockler has on their web site - http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=4997&site=ROCKLER

Depending on what you have in mind, they may have it. Otherwise, making your own might not be too difficult, but that'll depend on the tools you have on hand. Both stores carry the movements too, depending on the song you want.

Meanwhile, my bait has been butchered - without cutting myself! woo! - and now I need to decide if I want to continue what I'm doing, or get/make a pole first.

Had brilliant flash of inspiration tonight while brainstorming ideas based on the list of ideas that I was supplied with.  If I can pull this off, it will be gorgeous.

For those of you who want horses rather than exotic animals, if you were getting a pony that veered very slightly off the spectrum of "traditional", but was more like expanding upon one of your suggested themes, would you mind terribly?   Because I *really* want to do this idea.

Well, with the bait I'm using, I think I'm going to end up making the pole out of a sorely rod and/or wire. It might be easier to work with the bait suspended in air for a change.

Best of luck, but to my eyes the pole is too far back and too heavy for the scale.  But I am coming from a antique carousel perspective.   

Not sure if I am going pole or not, I am not into them unless they are in scale and correctly placed.  Mostly due to so many years of riding and studying the real thing I am afraid.  But I did mention that in my form to try and make it easier on who ever got me.
