Haven't seen that one before...

Don't know it there's already a topic on this one.  Copy and paste "My Little Pony FiM G4 Blossomforth / Rarity? Variant/Factory Error Unipeg" into eBay and it comes up with an unusual but pretty factory error...

Soooo someone popped Rarity's head on Blossomforth's body.
I can't believe people are bidding on this

I'm tempted to make my own just to prove a point.
I hope people aren't too gullible.

Considering the seller has several other error/prototype ponies including blank flanks I don't think they are trying to trick anyone with the Rarity/Blossomforth hybrid. I would imagine they are picking these up from Taobao. I do like the color combination on her. :)

I question the other prototypes as well. It's far too easy to remove symbols.

That is totally a head exchange.  Maybe it was done at the factory, but it isn't like they couldn't have just fixed it easily.

As someone who owns a bunch of the errors, there are some other weird things about them.  Eyes, legs that kind of thing.  And even if it was just the symbol, not to many people have hasbro's symbol printing machine at home and the symbols are not re-painted like with customs.

Variant symbols, yes, but I think they were referring to blank-flanks. I could easily come up with a bunch of "blank flanks" to sell as one of a kind factory errors or prototypes with a swipe of acetone ;)

Oh sure, I feel that way too.  I do have a couple of blank flanks but they don't actually match any existing pony at all.

Oh no if they have symbols printed ten I'm fine to be accepting of them as factory errors. Trixieshy and Lyra Rays as examples.

It's when they're completely blank do I start to question if they are errors or just someone with acetone trying to make some quick cash.

I can actually believe the seller may have purchased them like that to be honest - some of the Taobao listed ponies are clearly head/body swaps and I have always been a little sceptical of any "prototype/variant" which could be made by simply taking the head from one pony and popping it on the other.

In the description, the seller states:

Her neck seam is a little loose

Do ponies often come with loose neck seams?  Or would this point to a head swap?  Just curious for curiosity's sake; I've never fiddled with a G4 for customizing, so I haven't the foggiest about the neckage thereof. :P

Based on all of the frankenponies on Taobao- I think that what often happens is that a seller will purchase a huge lot of random spare parts from Hasbro (QC rejects or misprints or something)-

Then they assemble them- trying to match up heads and bodies- but failing quite badly sometimes.

The weirdest ones I've seen are when they pop a Sweetie Belle head on a regular FS body- or vice versa...

That said I think the misprints and frankenponies that show up on Taobao are neat- and I do try to collect them all to the extent possible :D
