TRU so overpriced !!!! :(

Our TRU here is the same.  I just can't see paying that much, though I'd love to have Zecora and Nightmare Moon.

I can see why they boosted Zecora and Nightmare Moon in response to scalper hype, but I really wanted to hoard a bunch of those those train sets and make a big super dope pony express but I guess not if they want another $15 "just because".

I thought the white talking Celestia sold faster than the train sets and yet she's getting price drops all the time, hrmm...

It's still $40 online though

I work right next to a TRU and it's pretty well stocked for MLP FiM items.
Paid the $16.99 for Zecora.
Willing to pay the $49.99 for the Favorites collection.
More than willing to pay $100 for FS Mrs. D. Hooves. 

You'd think with what pony fans are willing to pay and have been paying for FiM, it would be the single thing that fixes the economic state! LOL I am kidding!! 

I just feel bad for newer fans and collectors. "In my day, youngin' we'd pay $5.00 for a brushable and $15 for a Fashion Style! "

The Favorites collection is going on sale for $29.99 starting next Sunday. As for Zercora the price increases are just because of the demand...

I was at the TRU in Topeka Monday and the favorites set was still $39.99. The train set was $55 though. They had 1 Zecora, but I didn't bother to check the price.

for the stuff that is not exclusive, I just go to Target or Walmart and find them cheaper Shoot, sometimes even other places like Walgreens or Kohls you can find them cheaper too.

Walgreen's is currently only carrying the FS ponies, and those are marked up to about 18 dollars.  Drug store ponies are always more expensive than Wal Mart.

Dollar General has some of the regular brushables for 5 bucks, but those are mostly the main six and some of the easier-to-find others.

*giggles*  Every time I want to complain about TRU's prices, I remember they are owned by Bain Capital.  :-p  It's all about the corporate enviroment and their attitudes of doing business.  They likely feel that as a specialty toy retailer, that they can charge whatever they'd like.  Especially with the exclusives!

That is so rediculous that zecora went up...AGAIN! She is so not worth that much money. She wasn't even worth the $14.99 I had to pay!

I just got the great big Toys R Us book in the mail today - this is what the below ponies are priced at inside:

Also when you get this catalog in the mail you'll usually get a discount, my discount on the front is $10 off a purchase of $100 or more.

Also on the front of the cataloge it says Now, we price match everything. It says inside Spot a lower advertised price Visit our store and we'll match it

Christmas prices and popularity at a specialist retailer = price hikes.

In some ways we have been lucky with MLP up until now, it was a popular brand but not a crazy popular brand as the TRU exclusives have proven to be - we are perhaps a little a victim of our own popularity.

Its frustrating but honestly US prices for many of these items still remain lower than the equivalent item elsewhere in the world - in fact in the UK it can be cheaper to buy and pay for shipping than purchase locally and I know we are far from the most expensive country in the world for items like this.

Yes $45 is expensive but its purchasing you 7 ponies...try and buy 7 ponies in the 80s then factor in 30 years of inflation or compare MLP products to other TRU lines and you ll find that MLP remain one of the more inexpensive lines.

Its frustrating yes but if you dont wish to pay that then you can always wait for the sales and hope for stock or simply wait until ebay will no doubt be flooded...just look at the prices of G3 now!

I haven't been to TRU in a while, but that is ridiculous to charge that much for Zecora!  I mean sure, I ordered her online, but $19 is silly.

Geez and when I had my best friend pick up Zecora for me at SDCC I thought I was overpaying at $10! 

I'll have to check at my local TRU for the prices, since I wanted to go grab a job app anyways. I do know my store went along with jacking up the cost when the Monster High dolls first came out in 2010.

I do know that I tend to put them last on the list for getting the toy lines I collect. Wal-Mart and Target have the best prices, Meijers can be good for some sales, but TRU is last call unless it's an exclusive. Or the only other option is ordering online. I'm glad they're doing price matching now! That makes it a bit better, because I've had where you look for something at Target for a lower price, they don't have it, and then you go to TRU and they have several but for five buck more. That ends that.

Hathor, I understand in other countries the price of a single brushable is more than what we pay in the US but even where you are... would you pay $18 USD for one brushable? o.0 That just seems outrageous to me! I think these people have a right to complain about Zecora with a price hike like that!

I personally feel the Favorites Collection is overpriced, but that's just my opinion. I can totally see your side of it as well, that when you divide 7 by $45 it comes out to a reasonable price per pony. I just don't think it's a fair price for the quality of the product. ...But I don't see how anyone can defend Zecora's price hike lol. It's just insane for the size of the toy!

Oh I certainly think people have the right to complain! Everyone is entitled to their opinion and because we haven't seen it before in MLP the hike does seem particularly painful. Its just that I can see the reasoning behind it and when I compare it to the price of other items it doesn't seem out of context but thats my opinion and far from everyone elses!

Would I pay $18 for one brushable? Well right now a brushable over here would be at its full price cheapest $9 [there are stores which charge around the $12 mark] - and thats for a luggage Twilight not a special release pony such as Zecora. In the US, Zecora was originally double the price of a standard brushable so $10 rather than $5 - therefore over here if she was in shelves she would have been double the price of a brushable so $18 rather than $9. Therefore, unfortunately on UK on shelves I would indeed probably need to pay $18 for her if the price difference remained the same
