Dollyhair vs Katsilk
« on: October 22, 2012, 01:24:49 PM »
what are the different qualities between these? I have some katsilk and all i can tell is it might be slightly coarser?

i have not used it yet though on an actual custom, but a few of the colors are tempting for something im working on lol, however i have similar/same colors in dollyhair that i can use as well.

so is there anything i should know? does it style as well as DH? (is it different at all? xD)

I have been wondering about this too. I have read that katsilk is coarser and therefore dollyhair nylon would be more similar to real MLP hair. But katsilk seems to be cheaper. Do the colours match with ponies just like dollyhair nylon?

Isn't katsilk just a brand name? I have ordered both nylon and Saran in the past and they came in bags labeled katsilk.

Possibly it needs a good wash? some times the hair can feel a bit stiff before you wash it....

I remember asking Shannon about the difference.. let me see if I can find that convo but I think it mostly has to do with texture

Edit: Found that convo. What I was told is that Katsilk Nylon is harder to curl and works like kanekalon. Note I'm just paraphrasing the convo xD More experience people would have a better answer than me

I think I remember reading that katsilk doesn't take a perm / curl well so thinking that the nylon compositions are different somehow and that's how the feel is different.

Atleast with nylon, katsilk nylon is a lot coarser and tougher to style then dollyhair nylon, even after a good washing.  Dollyhair nylon is definitely a better match for ponies, and softer to the touch.
With the few colors I've gotten, dollyhair also seems to be a bit brighter and more saturated in colors, don't quote me on that though as I've only had a few katailk nylon colors in my possession.

It doesn't sound very good for pony restorations then. The lower price just sounded nice, and as it's nylon after all (just like dolly's pony hair) I thought maybe... :D
