g4 Sea Ponies
« on: October 08, 2012, 06:35:55 PM »
So I plan on making some g4 sea ponies! I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on how to have them still float a bit or at least some level of buoyancy? Also do you guys think real hair or sculpted would be better? I was thinking of using a ping pong ball or something similar as a base for the chest cavity and sculpt around it. Miliput is so heavy though I am afraid it will still sink like a stone. Maybe just rely on floats the way the babies did?

Hmm... most clay is pretty heavy...Some air dry clays (one being Lumina) are lighter.  It's a bit spongy even, I dunno if it would float, but maybe with a bouyant base?

Sculpey Ultralight is supposed to float, according to the description on their website.

And I'll put my vote in for real hair!  I've been dying to see a G4 sea pony custom with real hair. ^.^

You need to find a good non water base sealer.
I think you should do both. my last sea pony had real hair.
As for floating I have no clue. I would love to see what you come up with.

Well if you plan on sculpting what I suggest is making some sort of air pocket in the head. I don't know how well that would work though if the clay is going to be heavy.

You could always sculpt around newspaper or foil to make the seapony lighter. I love apoxie, but that stuff gets heavy after a bit.

Can't wait to see what you come up with:)
